I agree. I have a few Winnipeg friends and our banter is all good natured and it’s fun when you’re the winning one and it’s easy to be sour when you’re the losing one. For me, owning my shit, when I read online content there’s no voice or face so it is easy (for me) to be bothered by something that if someone said it at the office I’d laugh. This forum gets quite lively between our fan bases and I’m sure I’ve assumed the worse from comments at times and I’ve been taken the wrong way as well.
So, trying to come across as a little less of an ass and give kudos where they’re deserved.
The Cooler will be the starting RB tomorrow. Hopefully, he can keep translating that bulky package of his with the low center of gravity into more success.
Leaving many defensive starters at home. We’ll get a good look at the battles for spots all throughout the D.
On O, I am very excited to see Cooley “The Cooler” continue to impress by plowing over Rider LBers
I had hoped that Gassama could make it over Cobb, as I always like to have a few local guys on the team.
Some pretty good defensive players that were cut. But then again, we’ll likely have a top D as per usual.
I hear ya Lyle… the Bombers offense is truly offensive right now. That unit is probably worse than the offense that we had at the start of last season (which led to an 0-4 start). The reason we’re all giddy as fat ladies at an all you can eat chocolate buffet? Our defense is da bomb.
We have the stingiest group of point pinchers in the league. NOBODY is going to score on Jorden Younger’s pack of paper trained assassins. They will kick ass and take names so get ready for single digit scores that will drive offense junkies nuts starting… uh… maybe game six.
Until ‘jelling time’ arrives other teams offenses will have a snowball’s chance in hell with the thermostat turned down but after that we’re going to be no fun to play against. So there.
I agree about local product Gasama, but that receiving group is deeeep! A bit surprised about Leroux as he seemed to be Mike Benson’s heir apparent, but I guess he didn’t progress enough throughout the year. Reggie White Jr. on the practice roster means that his comeback story is quite written yet. Work hard and stay ready as we always lose some starters to injuries every year. Pleased to see the Cooler make the practice roster, but his days may be numbered once Peyton Logan comes back and Canadian Matthew Peterson moves down the depth chart. Jamieson Sheehan has improved every year and successfully fended off fellow global punter James Evans. As usual, I’m expecting big things from the Bombers, including their offense which should bounce back big time from last season, if the big guns stay healthy. Now for the hard part, the two week wait for the season opener.
Other than Myron Mitchell, who I had mild familiarity with, the Bomber scratches were basically training camp fodder. Nothing stands out. Nothing will.
A veteran laden group with zero 21, 22 or 23 yr old players. Think there’s only 1 x 24 yr old.
Thought Bombers would create a chase scene for Cameron Dukes (cut by Toronto) but I think at least 2 other teams will beat Kyle Walters to the punch. In any event, Bombers usually overrate their QB talent so obviously Collaros is untouchable, Streveller has super potential and Terrible Terry is a house favorite. Cooler has been cooled by strong guys meeting him at the line. Doesn’t seem he’s a heir apparent to anyone. Just a short, squat guy with a cool nickname.
Bombers should be on Dukes like a hobo on a ham sandwich. But they won’t.
Bombers should also look into bringing former U of M Bison star QB, Jackson Tachinski into town for a tryout. He was cut by the Elkimos yesterday. Wasn’t counting on playing or backing up at QB but could be a kind of Joe Poplawksi project. A versatile slot or WR who is local and can, under the right coaching, move to a higher level in a couple years.
Both Patterson and Dukes laid lickings on the Bombers. I guess the Bomber tall foreheads hold long grudges.
What the Dukes cut tells us is that = the unstable Chad Kelly is ready to wreak on-field havoc on the CFL. Kelly & Arbuckle present a formidable 1-2 punch for the boatmen, no need holding a high-paid 3rd stringer in tow. Hence, Dukes now on Team Nomad.
Don’t know the entire story of Terrible Terry in Wpg but remember when Zach’s hand was hanging off his arm in last year’s Grey Cup, Man Mountain Mike was extremely recalcitrant in putting Terry in - instead they put some Gorilla Glue on Zach and masked the cut with a garbage glove. The results were horrid - so how much confidence do they have in Terry???
Agreed that they have zero confidence in Terry, but they like something about his future obviously. Bombers as you know are fiercely loyal. We’ll see if he sticks out the season.
It would appear from pre season (for those who put stock in pre season) that the Bombers may have the best 1-2 QB punch in the league with the deadly accurate Streveler ready to start Game 1.
Speaking of ‘best 1-2 punch’ combos, this was on MSN this morning:
As you know, Travis and Zach were both roomies in college and they’re still good friends. I wonder, will Travis help his sleep deprived pal by sharing the secret for getting a good night’s sleep with a platoon of toddlers who know that mommy or daddy are just a “WHAAAAA” away?
Artopeus will figure our game out by the time fall rolls around so there’s reason to hope. But right now, after Streveler the Leveler we might be screwed. I’ve been assured by the Football Fairy that our current one-two quarterback punch is invincible so relax and enjoy the ride.
Oh c’mon @Paolo_X, I know you believe in the Football Fairy. Every time I got my head kicked in as an undersized teenage offensive lineman, the Football Fairy would leave 25 cents under my pillow. Then the birds twittering around my head would fly away.
Alright, alright, you got me again ya varmint, and so be it, out with it.
I’m going to say I don’t believe, but on the other hand I can’t discredit the Football Fairy in full, for we do know that your off-season experience with that gang of sasquatch who kidnapped you was most enlightening.
Who here amongst us should dismiss all that you have seen and heard in those deep woods in grueling, yet effective, sasquatch training for a modern giant beaver, once thought to have been extinct like many other large mammals?
I do hear that back in their day, they didn’t give a dam either,
but now of course we’re happy to hear about such enlightenment and new wisdom as well.
