Bomber News and Discussion 2024

Ya, I’d think both Miller & Whitehead get fined.
I can’t believe the uproar that fanbase had over Bighill on Patterson, after 2 straight LDC games with direct H2H contact on Zach.

I just read some of it on the post game thread. Comparing Brown’s hit to Bighill on Patterson and yet another fan making the ridiculous assertion that Zach was faking the head butt. There’s just no getting the homer out of some homers.

Yup…he tried to sell it so hard he took himself out of the game…F’n ridiculus…
They’re tailspinning, but I want to knock them right down with another dominant win nextweek. Perfect time for a bye after that.

Wow, JON. They that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I watched the reply multiple times. I believe that Brown had time to, perhaps, alter his course, but he turned his shoulder so as to avoid head-on helmet contact. Now for the blatant, deserving of suspension, contact on Harris. Harris was going down, into his slide. Was your guy just a split-second late? Yes, but HE HELD ON, after Trevor was down, and spun his head into the ground…a definite attempt to injure. I groaned thinking Trevor could have a broken neck, then starting breathing again when he got up. I don’t care if this was retribution; it was absolutely deliberate and flagrant, much more so than Brown, because it was an attempt to inflict damage!

Not only are you factually wrong, but you are in the Bomber forum. Please keep your anti Bomber spin to the general or Saskatchewan forums. Otherwise we do welcome outsiders to the Bomber forum.

I can’t even imagine the meltdown you’d have if Bighill were to hit a Sask QB like that

But, do executives of Millers level get fines? CEO/President and on the CFL board.

this wasn’t anti-Bombers…it was pro-fairness, pro-objectivity, pro-truth in reporting. If a Rider committed a flagrant foul, attempt to injure, I would call him out absolutely, as I did with Mareno. There is no place in our game for same, regardless of which jersey the perpetrator wears. Injuries are plentiful enough already. If Brown is that guy, I don’t want him on our team, or in the league. Hamilton’s assassin retired, thankfully. No real fan should stand up for a guy, even if it is “his own” player. There should be no “ya-buts”…and I will agree with you that paltry fines don’t deter dirty play.

BTW, Jon. I truly feel sorry for Zach. I am not a medical professional, but, for the sake of his health, he should throw in the towel. Too many successive brain traumas. The Riders let him go to save his health. He has played on undaunted…some would say bravely, some would say foolishly. But these guys should be concerned with their life after football. I am not mitigating the effect of the hit…obviously, it was enough to end his game, but, realistically I am guessing after 8 or 10 concussions, it takes less, and less, of a hit to do damage. Please Zach, for the sake of you loved ones, isn’t it time?

With your green colored glasses you determined that Brown tried to avoid hth contact and ended up contacting Zack’s helmet with “just” his shoulder. And yet the slo-mo replays shows both Brown’s shoulder and helmet contacted Zack’s. Not to mention that the ex-football players covering the game (and know more about it than you and I) considered it a late hit.
Harris’ slide was late, he was no longer a “passer” as he was past the los, the defender was in motion to tackle him from behind. Holding on to a tackle is what a tackle should be and, once again, the people who have played the game professionally were in agreement that it was the wrong call.
In a later comment you say that you don’t accept “ya but” arguements?

I have watched the replay several times; and what I see is Brown using his helmet to whack Collaros in the helmet.

I find the rampant whataboutism on these forums annoying.

I think it was anti Bomber. My point is make those posts elsewhere if you must make them. To me it seems like pure homerism disconnected from reality.

You might benefit from reading the game thread and other sub forums and then you will realize that what I am saying isn’t homerism.

The vast majority on this forum have correctly identified Brown’s illegal hit as dirty and warranting an ejection if not a suspension. It was a tad late but the worst part is that he clearly launched himself at his head. He left his feet and his feet weren’t touching the ground when he hit him. Watch the replay- it’s posted just above. He literally launched himself at a defenseless QB’s head after the ball was out. No place for that in the game no matter which team is involved. I expect you probably think that Simoni’s hit on Zach when he was a Rider was also clean. These hits were similar, only the Simoni hit caused serious damage and it doesn’t appear that this attempt to injure did thankfully. Stegall and Dunigan support my take on this. The in game announcers didn’t think it was a clean hit either. That position belongs only to a few Rider fans.

The vast majority on this forum including myself didn’t think that the hit on Harris was worthy even of a penalty. Harris was running so no longer the protected defenseless QB in the pocket that Zach was. Again an opinion supported by the on air “experts”. You over the top post game pearl clutching relating to this play is exactly just that. Your view isn’t reality and it doesn’t excuse or minimize Brown’s hit.

Bad news… Bryant was a late scratch. But as a former lineman you’re gonna love this post-game article from 3DownNation Lyle:

"Franchise left tackle Stanley Bryant missed a game due to injury or illness for the first time since joining the Blue Bombers as a free agent in 2015, giving way to rookie Kendall Randolph. The University of Alabama product gave up three sacks after taking over from Bryant against Hamilton last week, so I’m sure Saskatchewan’s edge rushers were licking their chops heading into Sunday’s contest.

Despite last week’s struggles, Randolph — to his credit — played well on Sunday. I predicted that offensive coordinator Buck Pierce would have backup offensive lineman Micah Vanterpool, who dressed for his first career CFL game, in at tight end beside Randolph to provide help but that wasn’t the case. Winnipeg left Randolph on an island and he rose to the occasion, providing solid protection.

“You’ve gotta focus on each play individually,” said Randolph. “Coach is going to call the plays and it’s our job to go out and execute plays regardless of whatever he calls. He didn’t put a tight end there and that was the game plan. Overall, my job is to go do my job regardless of whatever the play call is.”

The offensive line allowed a sack on Winnipeg’s first possession as Bryan Cox Jr. beat Eric Lofton around the right side, though Collaros had time to step up in the pocket — one could argue it was a coverage sack. After that, Winnipeg’s quarterbacks had plenty of time to operate.

Coincidentally, (Jake) Thomas revealed postgame that he was forced into action along the offensive line in 2016 in a game against Calgary. Among the players he blocked in that contest? Micah Johnson.

In the old days, it was perfectly normal for players to play along the offensive and defensive lines. In the modern game — say, since 1980 — Thomas and Johnson might be the only two players to go up against one another on both sides of the ball."

Don’t know for sure. I expect so.

If Brown is guilty, then he deserves punishment, regardless of my “glasses color.” However, Dibs, you have interpreted the rule incorrectly. It doesn’t matter if the QB was beyond the line of scrimmage. He still has the option to slide. The rules are there to protect the QB. Holding on to him was what drew the penalty. And BTW, I have watched waaaay more CFL games than anyone on the panel. And, while a severe injury ended any chance of my playing the game after high school, one doesn’t need to be a former player to completely understand the nuances of the game. In fact, when watching the game, I will often identify the reason for a penalty flag before the TSN guys get it. And, you are right, Brown’s shoulder hit first, and his head/helmet snapped around to contact Zach. It deserved a penalty. I don’t condone his hit, or anyone else who attempts late hits with, or without, malice. Players don’t get paid much in our league, and they need to provide for their families, during their career, and after. You may care to remember that Zach once wore green, and I really like the guy…met him. Feel sorry for him.

Furthermore, I worked in WPG. one summer, and two of my best friends are big BB fans. My second team to cheer for is the BB. So, I am not the “enemy.” When the green are out of the running, I switch to the BB. And, even when the Riders are in the race, I want the BB to defeat the despised Stamps, and EE.

The penalty on Harris was essentially 2 minutes (10 yds) for Awkward Tackling. No more. No less. Since when did tackling become a punishable offense in professional football?

Ah yes, the old days. I remember Herb Gray going two ways for the Bombers - in the same game.

Angela Mosca took a few turns at OT in his day.

Chris “Bluto” Walby was initially a defensive tackle before being converted into the greatest OT in CFL history…

Good stuff.

Wadzilla (Miller) is a CFL CEO and thus should be protected. (I jest).
You certainly cannot fine anyone named “WADZILLA”, can you? lol
