Bomber News and Discussion 2024

I was at that legendary game. Never in the history of football has an unknown
QB had a better debut followed by a precipitous collapse and dive off the cliff. To this day any time a newbie QB has an impressive first game I take it with a grain of salt and think of Troy.

I miss the old stadium sometimes for nostalgic reasons and although the new one is a vast improvement, I wish the fans would not congregate in the concourses. Far too crowded at times, especially with folks lacking situational awareness.
I was at that game, great comeback.

The old stadium had its charms. Ingress and egress was much better and Section S where we sat for almost 20 years and the beer snake were legendary. I was definitely part of the ā€œWest Side Sucksā€ crew.

But everything else was pretty crappy and antiquated. My buddy and I still talk about being at a beer kiosk while it was raining and water with who knows what in it dripping off the top of the kiosk and the rafters into our untouched beers. The volunteer beer slinger just shrugged. After that we upped our flask supply.

Outsiders really have no idea that there are literally thousands of fans in the concourse during the game. ā€œLook at all those empty seats!ā€ lol

Chew the Corn! Chew the Corn!
Don’t forget the key jingling for those leaving early! Which is probably why I don’t like to leave early, lol

My cousin worked one of the concessions that I got my rye & pepsi from. Oops, look at the spillage she’d say as she poured the rye (spillage) in my cup. Then I’d be in the stands hollering, ā€œWest Side Sucksā€.
And the west side did suck, my sister and brother-in-law had seats two or three rows up behind the Bomber bench. I was the recipient of their tickets when they couldn’t attend. I’m wild in the stands cheering good plays and during the opponents offensive plays with all the people around me sitting on their hands.
Great memories from the old place on Maroons Road.

Beat the traffic!

My favourite was when the cops would escort someone out of the section, which was pretty much every game, and the crowd would chant ā€œTaser, taserā€.

Well done Bombers way to grind that one out!
After the last score to go ahead and win, the crew were all happy again with a celebratory brawl after I had to call it a night.

A well deserved induction for Blink. I have met him a few times, the last time in 2013. At that time he was living in Winnipeg, but I’m not sure if he still does.

Ed Tait reported that he works for UCLA Health now, back in his home state of California.

Looks like Woli and Biggie are back for the LDC. Although Bryant didn’t practice I’m sure he’ll be in the lineup too.

That’s great news! I hope that Bighill is reasonably healthy and not rushed back like the GC.

Lets Go Boys! Take back that throne!
Fitting that they can do it in a stadium shaped like a toilet bowl!

Bighill and Wolitarsky are in, but no Bryant yet.

When I first saw Mosaic I thought the white roof cover looked like a seat from the old outhouse. I’m not alone.

Stan the Man (Bryant) will prolly be a gametime (morning) decision. If he had some viral condition that was agitated by the heat and humidity its fully understandable he had a ā€œmedical eventā€ on the field.
The last thing you want is for Bryant to go full Jim Bowie (ie. play hero) and suffer another on-field episode because the symptoms haven’t cleared.

Somebody sent me another anonymous poem. I cleaned it up for tough language but in essence its the same I received earlier this week from Canada Post. Let me know if anyone remembers the subject of the poem - or if it goes back too far.

The Ballad of Nasty Nate

In a land true north, where cold winds blow,

Lived a man named Nate, with a heart full of woe.

He spoke his mind on the CFL scene,

Demanding truth, he was bold and keen.

From Winnipeg to Calgary, his voice rang clear,

On forums and chats, he had no fear.

The Bombers, the Riders, them Eskimos too,

All felt the sting of his words so true.

But the powers that be, they couldn’t stand,

A man like Nate, with his truth in hand.

They banned him from sites, they silenced his voice,

But Nate stood firm, he had no choice.

Then came the day, a tale so grand,

When Lord Lyle Bauer took a stand.

He called out Nate, with a sinister plan,

To lure him to his fate, by CFL firing squad’s hand.

ā€œCome to your end,ā€ said Bauer with glee,

ā€œWe’ll silence you now, for all to see!ā€

But Nate just laughed, with a twinkle in his eye,

ā€œYou don’t kill my truth, no matter how you try.ā€

So here’s to Nasty Nate, anti-hero so bold,

In the annals of CFL, his story now told.

For speaking his mind, for standing his ground,

In the heart of True north, his legend is found.

Man, still feels sooo good to pull off that win, and claim 1st place in the West right now. :muscle:
Now we come home, hopefully Uncle Stan is back, and we run Brady like hell!

Let’s Go Blue!!!

Uncle Stan was 6 gamed so I’m not sure about him coming back just yet. If he was that close wouldn’t he have just been one gamed?

I also have to say something about the newest CFL goon, who unsurprisingly plays for Saskatchewan. Whoever was watching saw Zach taken out by a dirty hit on a non football play.

This is the hit and was posted in the game thread. This Miles Brown guy was also reportedly the guy who took out Dru Brown. It seems that him and the Edmonton guy are vying for the title of worst goon in the league recently apparently vacated by Micah Awe after taking it over from Marino with Robertson making one attempt last year to take the title. Both Stegall and especially Dunigan were heavily critical of the hit with Dunigan correctly identifying the hit as a non football play. Not only was it late but it was obviously targeted at a sitting duck quarterback as he intentionally launched himself at his head. It wasn’t one of those hits where the QB ducks or slides and there might be a question about the defender’s ability to adjust his launch angle. As dirty a hit as I have seen in the league this year.

Worse yet Saskatchewan wasn’t penalized as a 15 yard penalty when the Bombers were already at the one yard line is no penalty. It should have been 25 and a game. I understand that it is often difficult for the refs to see such hits at full speed for what they are, but isn’t the ever useless command center supposed to pick up these obvious and egregious attempts to injure? Great protection of the QB’s in this league. Not. Expect an undisclosed $75 fine from the league even though a one game suspension should be the mandatory minimum.

Worse yet Saskatchewan almost came back to win a game they had no business winning but for this hit. They deserved to lose. I will also say that what followed was the worst play calling in Buck’s career. Almost nothing but Brady runs straight up the middle with little attempt to allow Mr. Fur Coat to move the ball, although he snuck in a couple of nice throws when given the chance. If I’m Osh I’m sitting down with Buck today if not last night and giving him a WTF?

Sometimes we need to be pissed in our own forum. If this had happened to Hamilton or Montreal they would have already burned the goon in effigy or have bet on when he is removed from the league a la Marino. No room for this type of chicanery in our league.

I’m on the same page as Wade Miller about this (especially Saskatchewan) goonery and the lack of action taken by the league. Expect Miller to be fined.
