Bomber News and Discussion 2024

I think Bomber GM Kyle Walters has to face a grim reality. Adam Bighill won’t be around in 2025, at least he shouldn’t be. Even when he’s 90% repaired Bighill has obviously lost a step and tries so hard to get by on guile and experience. He’s a $200k+ guy and doesn’t want to lose the cash, I understand but team is more important than me, right?

Walters needs to bring in some NFL tweener cuts to begin the process of finding the next Solly Bomb Bombs, Bighill or even Cam Judge, Muamba, etc.

Bombers lucky they’re facing the relatively immobile Bo “The Miz” Mitchell tonite. Even a sluggo like Shayne Gauthier can match Mitchell’s foot speed. Bombers would be in tough facing mad scramblers like Tre Ford, Powell, Crum, etc.

I think you’re right Lyle. Biggie’s time here as our GOAT MLB is rapidly falling victim to Father Time. He was the best of the best and he can still bring it… just not for an entire season anymore. We saw last game that our unexpectedly amazing defense (thanks to DC Jordan Younger) is terrifying opposing quarterbacks with or without Adam Bighill.

If Biggie was in his prime he’d be meeting those running backs at the line instead of five or six yards downfield. And he and Willie Jefferson would cornering quarterbacks better than Chad Kelly corners female athletic trainers.

So IMHO (and yours) the writing is on the wall. The Greatest of All Time Linebacker in this neck of the woods is nearing the end of the road. But I think that out of respect GM Kyle Walters gives Biggie an opportunity go out on his own terms. There’s no rush (pardon the pun) right now. As long as he’s not dragging down the rest of his fellow defenders with his more frequently occurring injuries then I say he’s welcome to stay with us a while longer.

If the Weitz experiment is successful, does that change global ratio situation and Jamieson Sheahan? I think he’s had ample time to prove himself and he just doesn’t do it for me.

If not, maybe we should try and find some of the global kickers that the NFL are training on their dime.

Biggy might need the money (or most of it) to supplement his burgeoning career as a “financial consultant”. I suspect he could be brought in to replace the ageing Richie Hall as a defensive consultant once Richie hangs his headset up for good. Also, gotta watch what happens with Jordan Younger. Some faceless CFL team might want to grab him early as a head coach - could include Edmonton and/or BC as Jarious is basically a temp and Campbell is getting up there. We’ll see where Doman is at after this season. Does Porky Campbell get them into the Cup - especially with his power-packed QB duo - or do they fall flat again.
Anyways, Bombers should find a way to keep Bighill around town - either in coaching or middle management.

Don’t forget everybody, Captain Timbers has graced us with an extension of an invitation to any retiring Bombers players, or retiring or displaced fans of the Bombers, even if somebody has has to do some time but it was for good cause, to apply to work aboard at Pirate Sports Network as well.

Otherwise, I come in friendship here as a member of the honourable opposition please understand, at this point of the season how is the Bighill situation any different on the field than it would be for any player underperforming in a game?

It’s just next man up like usual then.

And why would they cut him when he can still play at some level given the rigours of the second half of the season?

Sure there can be an NFL cut available amongst the over 900 more to be without jobs starting by Monday,
but these days there are simply not as many of those but for those small few with prior CFL experience AND who decide to give up the NFL run after one shot,
with some with the option to hang around on practice rosters and train up for a second shot next season.

Ahhhh crap. That’s right too.

As soon as anyone discovers that they have a genius OC or DC they lose him to highest bidder. Fellow Genius GM Kyle Walters will soon be tasked with finding a way to keep Jordan Younger out of the clutches of HC needy teams this off season. But what could Walters possibly offer Younger that would be better than a HC position elsewhere beyond the certainty that he’d ALWAYS have a job here?

About to board the Boogie’s bus myself! I was gonna start the gameday thread but forgot that I already drafted up my standings blurb for Sunday.

Me neither. Three of us parked our butts in front the TV over here and watched in horror as Stanley Bryant suffered a ‘medical emergency’ almost right off the bat. Then Bryant’s replacement rookie Kendall Randolf limped to the sidelines and was replaced by rookie Gabe Wallace who was carted off the field 20 minutes later.

Brutal stuff. :open_mouth:

Followed by Lawler being shaken up and missing some time and Brady O missing about a quarter and Bailey F also hurt. The injuries just won’t stop. Credit to the Bombers for somehow getting the win despite Zach’s worst performance as a Bomber. He looked like Caleb Evans, Dom Davis and Nick Arbuckle rolled into one. It wasn’t pretty but at end of the day it’s two more points in a tight playoff battle.

Did you stay for the win? :grinning:

We never leave early.
Didn’t expect that finish though.
What I did expect and hoped for was better offensive production.
Did you? Stay/expect?

Ya, we were parked as far away as possible, so no point in leaving early. I rarely do either, but I certainly don’t blame the many that did!

Yeah, it looked very much done like Friday’s dinner. Season’s ticket holders behind us left early and I can’t help but wonder how much they wanted to kick their own derrieres after the canon sounded.

Seen it many times before…my fav game ever was the Kopp comeback with 4 TDs in the 4th Q. Loved banging those aluminun benches at the old Stadium! Love the new stadium, but hate the commute…
