Bomber News and Discussion 2024

I’m mildly surprised that Winnipeg hasn’t reached out to Chandler Worthy…

I’ve been calling for the exact same thing. I think you were the one who put that idea into my head.

Some Chandler Worthy stats to chew on;

  • My #1 KOR in 2023
  • Led the CFL in number of kickoff returns over 30 yards in 2023
  • Didn’t do as well in the PR game but still 18% of his PR go for more than 15 yards with a PR Touchdown on the year.

I don’t understand how he isn’t on a team yet.

I’m with you on all counts. Jordan has not made a good Case for himslef at all, amd no improvement on Smith. Id like to see Lucky get a shot.

It was a dominating performance by the Bombers of those Lions and their “mangy rascal” Vernon Adams Jr.,
as Private Stubbles called him though I tried to remind him that was not very nice, and then I read in some other thread some Stamps bojack try to throw shade on the Bombers fine performance and DOMINANCE in that win with a rare CFL shutout,
and well the crew and I were not having that talk at all for the sake of proper sporting measure and also as dictated for the spirit of all competition by the Code of the Sea, as many of you know.

And so I stepped in to defend your honour and that of the CFL too, damnit. Arrrggh.

Yarrr. And just minutes ago Captain Paulo yer manly Elks rode those Riders into the ground like they were cheap floozies. Me and the men can’t WAIT to see what they do to the BC Lions next week! Arrggh. :beaver:

I gotta say, I am extremely impressed with Sergio Castillo this season. If he can clean up his misses on shorter field goals and get a streak going he is in contention as the Kicker of the Year.

Already made 7 field goals over 50 yards, including 2 60-yard field goals.

And don’t forget that two his misses were with the chipped ball and shouldn’t count. He has had one bad game, otherwise he has been near perfect. Whether he has the best percentages or not there is no other kicker in the league that I would trust more to make a long field goal with the game or season on the line.

Agreed. What a year for kickers around the CFL. Lots of broken records.

Castillo will probably break the record for most field goals over 50 yards in a single season too. He just needs 2 more;

I wonder if there is such a stat available as average length of field goal? If there is I expect Sergio would be leading that category.

I’ve sent an email off to the Statistics Crew over at the CFL office inquiring about it. I’ll let you know if they respond!

Well that was quick!

Hi Noah,

Now that is a good topic for this season with Sergio Castillo’s ability make 60+ yard field goals!

We keep that data in our records indeed. As of right now, the all-time leader is Carlos Huerta at 36.3 yards per made field goal (123 attempts). Castillo is up to #2 all-time at 34.7 yards on 230 attempts. Justin Medlock is up there too at 33.6 yards.

Hope this helps you out. Thanks for asking us.

Arrrggh we be asail over yar weekend on the high seas.

Captain Timbers passes on his good tidings to you all after such a fine victory.

He’s recovered from his anger at the damage to our deck as discovered this morning after quite the night of fine rum in celebration as well.

So last night, the full crew out on deck as we sailed on fine waters again after all that heavy water from Hurricane Ernesto fouled us up on Friday night,
and well in that third quarter when the Mowing Crew and Streveler were out there running the show,
let’s say things got wild with a full-scale celebratory brawl for much of the rest of the game.

It’s been a while you see.

Anyway, it was a rough morning after Captain Timbers saw the damage done to the deck, and so the entire crew are all busy with those repairs and mandatory counseling all week, but on to Friday night back at home!

No surprise at all that Bighill is out tomorrow. The performance of the suddenly all world defence last week is even more impressive considering that Biggie missed the bulk of the game. With Gauthier starting as his replacement in theory that should open up a different spot for an American should the Bombers choose to go that route.

Saw this on a Hamilton thread. I think it’s a pretty cool easy peasy outline of line up changes from game to game.

Does anyone know if such an animal exists for the Bomber line up?

The old in-out. Yeah, that layout looks good and easy to read. I haven’t seen this style on any other team, including the Bombers. It would be a good one to implement league wide, though.

LB Bighill out, DL Schmekel out, National LB Karamoko out.

Ed Tait writes it in his game previews, but it isn’t made into fancy PDF, PNG, JPEG or anything like that.

It seems amazing to me that they don’t have Carthell Flowers-Lloyd fitting in anywhere after his ST accomplishments last year. They also cut DB George Jr shortly after Chris Jones’ hiring.

Also Taulia as a backup seems intriguing.

You don’t change the form chart on kickers. Wish into one hand and spit into the other - see which one fills up first.

Sergio will still miss the odd mid-range FG and even the very odd convert.

That said he’s the best kicker the Bombers have ever developed. Remember the Bombers developed tons of guys - Hajarlahu, Parades, etc. were early Bombers.

Castillo is easily the best FG kicker in Bomber history. Medlock is a close 2nd.
After that - not even close - WideLeft Westwood, Tattoo Kennard, Bernard “Tokie” Ruoff, Gerry James, etc.
