Boatmen Reign Supreme: Argos win the 111th Grey Cup

VANCOUVER — The Toronto Argonauts were the hottest team in the league going into the playoffs. That momentum took them all the way to a win in the 111th Grey Cup.

Who cares they have crappy fans anyways

Couldn’t have happened to a more over-rated, flat-out lucky team. And beaten by a back-up QB too? But Zack got a boo-boo. Not that every other team in the league plays half the season with their back-up. GREAT game.

O’Shea, Zach & Brady will have to formulate a fresh batch of promises for 2025.

Bombers were out-matched at every significant area:

  • Kick Returns
  • Coaching
  • Catching the Ball
  • Running the Ball (almost equal)
  • Defensive coaching
  • Kick Returning
  • Punting (almost a saw-off)
  • O-line
  • D-line

Only Bomber who lived up to billing - Willy Jefferson

Zach, Deitrich Nichols, Demski, O’Shea, Younger WERE AWFUL

The fans themselves aren’t crappy. They are just smaller in numbers. That’s like saying Canada is crappy compared to America, China, Russia and Mexico etc.

Much to my pleasant surprise my hometown :argonauts: captured their :one: :nine:th Grey Cup versus the heavy favoured :bombers: in the 111th Grey Cup game from B.C Place stadium. :heart:The :anchor: have now won their last " :eight: Grey Cup appearances" :100: :star_struck:  The TSN turning point started with a interception by Benji Franklin late in the first half, which resulted in a 45 yard field goal to make it 10-9 advantage for :bombers: The key play for the Boatmen came at 6:33 in the third frame. A fumble by punt returner Lucky Whitehead at the :bombers: 17 yard line-The :argonauts: scored on the next play with a beauty catch and run by former Laval :star: Kevin Mital, taking the 2nd lead change to 17-10. :exclamation: The :argonauts: never surrendered the lead after that Major :exclamation:

My game ball goes to the :argonauts: Special Teams who sealed the “Big Deal” :football: :canada: :vietnam:

Every team has some crappy fans, but to call all Argos fans crappy is just wrong. Fans drive this league, buying tickets and merchandise. A lot of fans are CFL fans and watch most, if not all games. Cheers to all CFL fans whoever you support.

No other team in the CFL has more competition in it’s own city for the sporting dollar. Not to mention the lack of media coverage as opposed to the other professionals sports teams in the city. It’s basically non existent. It’s all Leafs, Jays, Raptors and Toronto FC. They all have their own radio shows, receive more coverage in their off seasons than the Argos do during their season. To get 17,000 to 25,000 attendance at their games is not bad considering and there are many who are die hard fans and have been their entire lives, that can’t get to the games for whatever reason, be it financial, distance, etc., that are not accounted for and that can only watch or listen to the games on the radio, when there is coverage at all.

My (lengthy) opinion : Yes the Toronto sports market is crowded, but if the Argos hired a top notch marketing entity, with radical programs that kept the football team in the news -every day -saturating the city, making an Argos game “the weekly event”, target younger fans with cross promos. Get the very personable Pinball out there every day as the face of the franchise. This could help sell out BMO Field every game.
But their ownership structure does not seem to allow this. MLSE has no desire to have their football team cannibalize the competing sports dollar on their other more lucrative franchises. Still, its worth a try for MLSE to give the Argos some love. After all, the Argos are their only entity bringing Toronto regular championships.
Edit: with Rogers taking over ownership of MLSE, maybe there will be a more positive outcome for the Argos?

Went to 2 Argos games this year. Game 1, win over BC at BMO, great fans, we even had a guy who played with Russ Jackson sitting near us! Second game at BC Place, not as many fans as expected, they didn’t seem into it as much as fans at BMO, great Argos road win

Well said. Couldn’t agree more.

Admittedly, the eastern division is a tough sell in Vancouver. Good on you for going though!

Good points! I’m a U of T graduate who follows the Argos from New Mexico. I love the CFL , and was amazed to find the Grey Cup story buried somewhere beneath the NFL scores in Monday’s Globe and Mail. A similar situation exists here in the states in the larger cities, except maybe LA, where college teams struggle to compete with the pros for fans. Thanks to CBS Sports for airing the game on Cable. Beats the crap out of streaming.
Great game and great season overall. Wish I had stayed in Canada when I had the chance years ago.
