TORONTO — There was no shortage of exciting football in 2024.
A season full of ups and downs for all teams ended in a 111th Grey Cup title for the Toronto Argonauts, but it was not a cruise control year for the champions, let alone the other eight teams.
For sure Winnipeg will go all-in to win a home Grey Cup, even risking cap fines. Their fans are expecting nothing less.
The other stories will definitely be about the new Head Coaches in Edmonton, Calgary and BC., and how they will each shape the culture of their teams.
The greatest off-season challenge for the Argos will be hanging on to their great players when every team in the league will be trying to raid them. Expect Hamilton to once again look for their talent on the Argo free agent list. I love Canadian football but the great weakness of the league is too much roster turnover. That is so disappointing when a great team is built and then disintegrates almost overnight. This almost happened to the Argos a year ago but to their great credit management found a way to overcome it. But they defied the odds. Unlikely it can be done again. Hamilton doesn’t recruit anymore. They just bid on Argo free agents and claim practice roster players.
