WINNIPEG — More than three years after his last start in the CFL, Chris Streveler was back under the lights on Friday night. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback guided his team to their first victory of the season at Princess Auto Stadium in a 25-16 win over the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
Chris did honed his passing skills, he’s just saving them for when he really needs them.
Yup, ugly win, but a very necessary win, ironically Bombers could just as easily be 0/5 or 4/1 or any subset inbetween. Each were ugly.
AND THEN THERE WERE 2 ! (Winless teams . LOL) Edmonton when they get off their bye will most likely be next to get a win. They have been too close to keep failing ! (Really ??)
Crazy the bombers can not get any passing touchdowns this year. I know they are missing their top two receivers and starting quarterback now but they couldn’t do it when they had them either. The defence is still good and that’s really what’s held them in games but it looks like age and roster losses has finally caught up especially on the o-line. Nice to see a changing of the guard but i won’t count the bones out just yet… as a rider fan this has been enjoyable.
(Cue the corny stale old sask roughriders music with some great additional lyrics )
We’re really rolling, we’re on our wayyy now.
We got that Bombers Pride, Bombers Pride. A feeling we just can’t hide, Bombers Pride, Bombers Pride . We got that Bombers Pride, Bombers , a feeling we just cant hide, Bombers Pride.
Powerful run game for sure but if any team can shut down the run can Strev throw??
He certainly could not when last in a Bomber uniform and he has to prove he got better in that aspect
My bet is that is why he ain’t in the NFL any more … not in possession of an accurate arm.
Just being devil’s advocate .. and a Rider fan hoping he is right but wow what a run game the bombers had in this much needed win.
Hey CFL fans across Canada, just a note to everyone. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have now officially entered into the fray on their way to another 2024 Grey Cup rematch with the Montreal Alouettes. The rest of the teams in the CFL 2024, Thanx for trying, sorry not, but the Bombers are now ratcheting up their game and leaving all the pretenders in their rubber pellets dust.
The answer is no. Streveler’s longest “pass” was 37 yds. In fact it was a 1 yd pass to Brady who then ran for 36 more. That was 25% of his passing total. In fact 70 of the yds were YAC. The Bombers have 2 elite RB’s when he’s playing but there’s a reason Pierce doesn’t have him push the ball down the field.
Streveler reminds me a lot of Tim Tebow. But the run game worked last night & it got them a win. Neither team could stop the run for that matter.
As a passer, Streveler sucks. Let’s be real. Dude is 29, with many years of pro experience and a stint in the NFL under his belt, but he throws like he’s fresh out of college. He can’t throw receivers open in the middle of the field. He can barely throw screen passes. Winnipeg used him very effectively on the ground to gut out a win against Ottawa but that is not a formula for repeat success. Eventually, teams are going to load up the box, play man coverage on the backend, and dare Streveler to beat them throwing the ball.
