Blocking to the face

As I suggested earlier, maybe it’s a penalty if the straight arm is extended out in front of the ball carrier, or in the direction he’s moving, but not if it’s to the side. In other words, if the contact carries the majority of the momentum of the ball carrier, it’s a blow to the head and therefore a UR penalty. But there’d be no penalty if the contact is more of a fending off a defender coming from the side, where the only closing motion is caused by the defender himself - a true case of “he ran into my hand”.

Not sure if it’s called that way now, but it’s how I’d like to see the existing rules applied / interpreted.

Leave it the way it is, and has been. Players understand the rule with straight arms, we already have too many flags. How sanitised do you want to make things. It isn't broke, no need to fix.

OK, so the question is therefore NOT about discrimatory application of a rule on O vs D but that you don’t like the rule. A very different point of debate.
