Black and Gold Game/ scrimmage 7pm tonight

Who is going?
What are you interested in seeing?
Any memories from past B and G days?

Years ago I worked with a guy who was best friends with Bobby Dawson.
Every receiver in camp the story goes rushed to the posted list of who is playing with who to see if they were with or against Bobby because he was such a big hitter.

I’m planning to go down. Most interested in seeing the receivers and linebackers. Will also be looking for DE’s to generate pressure and any standouts in the secondary, haven’t heard much on that front from the camp reports. Usually there is no tackling in something like this so just trying to get an idea of speed and athleticism of the players.

I think the last time I was at one of these Charlie Taffe was screaming “Somebody make a play!” - because it seemed as if nobody could.

going to my first ever black and gold game tonight… How does this work, do they take the full roster and split it up into 2 groups of offense 2 groups of defense and then have like a scrimmage game 1 group vs the other group or just offense vs defense.

Yes that’s usually I believe how it is done . It’s very much akin to a pick em non contact game with the roster evenly split as much as possible .

I’m not attending myself but am very interested in the Punter battle that’s happening.

If anyone could keep an eye out on that front it would be greatly appreciated!

You have 4 players listed in Figueroa , Cross , Makonza and Ternowski that have been designated as on the 6 gm IL . Other than that it looks pretty accurate from what I can see .

Figs, Cross and Makonzo have all been named to 6 Game, Ternowski was added to Vet Injured List not sure what that is i just noticed that from the transaction page thats why i didnt put 6 games beside his name

I believe “Injured Veteran” is a classification for training camp only. He’s there, attending meetings, but not participating in the practices, and having him designated, as such, opens up a spot for another player within the 75-man current roster limit. The club must feel there’s a likelihood, or at least chance, that Ternowski will be fit to participate sometime between now and mid July.

They only had Vedvik out doing mostly placekicking. He had one nice punt with good hang time that I saw. Missed two converts so I don’t have a lot of faith in him as an upgrade on Liegghio. If he beats out Flint for punting then maybe he would have a better leg on kickoffs.

Geiger had some good looks as a WR but i honestly see him as a special teams player if anything.

Lawson had a nice pick 6 off of the pass to Geiger of which Geiger fumbled the ball in his hands.

Vedvik to go along with what Schweinhund said, Vedvik missed a FG from the 35 and from the 33. Not sure why he was kicking FGs. I know Leggio wasnt playing but still.

Greg Bell looked like he could be a 3rd back behind Butler and Litre if they needed one.

I can see why Coach Milanovich is high on Bridges, he was getting good team reps today.

For Line backers, i seen the following pairs:

WLB - MLB - SLB
Townsend- Baker - Tangelo
Penny-Laryea- Brubacher - Flowers
Wilborn- Townsend - Flowers

Robinson (WR) didnt play, Patten didnt get many looks, Ezeike didnt play, Holmes got 1-2 passes, McDonald didnt play

So i think Bridges and Vasher make the team (regardless if Vasher goes on PR but i think Bridges gets the left WR spot, McDonald havnt seen much from him that ive seen in person the few times ive gone to mac, I can see McDonald getting cut. If they keep Robinson it will be because of being a Global player and his size. Ceiger Will be special teams, Coleman was PR last year, with the players that we have at Slot i dont see him making the team this year. Patten and Holmes will get cut

So Practice Squad i would say for WR would be:

Vasher, Robinson, Ezeike

Main roster WR:

Bridges, White, Bayless, Smith, Luther, OLO, Ternowski if he is healthy.

Thats if We dress 7 WRs like we did last year, 2 WR, 5 SB

Using last year as a example if we dressed 8 DL, Barlow, Usher, Wilcots, Sayles, Hendrix, Martin, Bennett, Brubacher, Pederico (PR), Curtis Woodmansey (PR), Townsend (PR), Hewitt (PR)

WHich would mean, Jones, Tangelo, Plant Jr and Sanders would get cut from DE,

Using last years DB we had 6 dressed:

Peters, George Jr, Kats, Leonard, Lawson Jr, Sutherland

Woods III (KR/PR), Burke Jr, Jaquett III both PR’s

LBs i would say using the 8 # from last years club:

Wilborn, Wilson, Hoyte, Townsend Cross (when healthy), Penny Laryea, , Pavihi (Global)

I know thats 7 just didnt see much from Hansford, Pierre, Blackett, Lesieur, D. Bell for them to make the team so they would be cut.

I think Flint makes the punter position over Vedvik

Thomson makes it over Frost as 3rd string.

The only position not sure of is OL.

They threw a ton of passes to #86 Chris Coleman. He isn’t a huge guy, looks more like 5’-11” ish but a lot thicker than Tim White and still capable of turning a corner with some speed. Thought he was fairly impressive, caught pretty much everything that went his way
Milanovich ran a lot of vanilla stuff, lots of inside slants 5-10 yards downfield, flare passes outside and quite a few runs. I think any receiver who isn’t afraid to go over the middle will get his share of targets. Outside of Coleman, I agree that Bridges and Geiger got a lot of work tonight and looked good. Timmy looked like the only real deep threat, got open repeatedly and looks ready to go. Greg Bell looks like a keeper as a backup rb, Calvin Tyler also got some work in.

Wasn’t overly impressed with defence but with no real contact allowed it’s tough to get a read on what these guys can do. Bo and Powell both looked fine, fairly accurate all night. Didn’t see much of Kevin Thomson. Frost threw a couple of nice balls. Didn’t see Hakunavanhu out there and O’Leary Orange
wasn’t targeted.

As a first look it was good to see the team again, but we’ll get a much clearer picture as to how these guys perform next Saturday.

If Coleman is going to be playign SB, I dont see him over White, Smith, Bayless or maybe Ternowski (depending on his injury) so unless he makes PR which maybe see Vasher, maybe Robinson depending on how he does or Ezeike since he didnt get a chance to play tonight. Just dont see him making starting job unless he makes PR.

I don’t see Coleman in the starting 5, but I think he may get another shot to start the season on the practice roster. Having said that I wouldn’t guarantee Bayless is a lock as a starter, especially if one of the newer guys impresses in the two preseason games.

The strategy tonight seemed to be to get the newer players the ball - especially Coleman, Geiger, Bridges and Vasher who all had multiple targets. Once White got rolling later on he and Bo seemed to connect fairly often.
