Bishop's New Gig
CORPUS CHRISTI – The Hammerheads landed a little help at quarterback in the form of a big name.

Head coach Roy Salas said Wednesday former Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and one-time NFL quarterback Michael Bishop will start for the Hammerheads in their home opener Saturday against the El Paso Generals in the Central Pavilion Arena at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown.

Bishop joined the team Thursday. He will start in front of Cory Miles, who started in the team’s 50-17 season-opening loss to El Paso Saturday night. The Hammerheads scored only two touchdowns and totaled a mere 129 yards of offense in the loss.

Bishop is expected to give the Hammerheads an immediate boost offensively.

Most recently, the former Kansas State University star, played in the Canadian Football League where he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season. He won his first game for the team, against the Blue Bombers. He also won his second game with a fourth quarter rally, where the Roughriders scored 20 unanswered points to defeat the Blue Bombers. Bishop was named the CFL's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Winnipeg comeback. He led the team to the 2008 West Semifinal game against the BC Lions,
He led the CFL's Toronto Argonauts in 2007. With him in the line-up, Toronto finished in first place in the CFL's Eastern Division. He finished the 2007 regular season with 2,920 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Well congrats to Bishop is truly in order.

...while I was checking out the hammerheads I noticed this:

...only natural that if Ottawa gets back in with the Rough Riders we should annex Abilene to play here too...

Glad to hear that Bishop was able to land back on his feet. Here's hoping he does well!

He looked like Bishop, but pulled out his first win.

Newly acquired quarterback Michael Bishop made his Hammerheads debut in the win. A former Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year at Kansas State, Bishop has spent recent years calling plays in the Canadian Football League. He started his first drive with three straight incomplete passes, and El Paso’s DeAngelo Woodie returned the resulting field goal attempt for the game’s opening touchdown.

As inconsistant as Ever
