“If you don’t have a dominating defence, you need a winning quarterback in the NFL,? said Metzelaars, the Bills’ former tight ends coach, who was fired along with head coach Chan Gailey. ?Fitz is an average to below-average kind of guy and, unfortunately, he made some bad decisions at the end of games and then didn’t make plays at the ends of other games we had chances to win.?
“I don’t want to throw Fitz under the bus,? Metzelaars told the Buffalo News.
So, he pushed him in front of a speeding AMTRAC train instead. “You’ve got to get an answer at quarterback,? Metzelaars said. “That’s got to be the No. 1 priority.?
Just minutes into the new league year, the Buffalo Bills and new coach Doug Marrone announced they had released starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick after two inconsistent seasons as starter.http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf ... k/1982913/
The team announced the move Tuesday, shortly after the NFL's free agency period opened, and a day before Fitzpatrick was due a $3 million bonus. General manager Buddy Nix said the team kept "every possible option open," before reaching the decision.
Fitzpatrick went 20-33 as a starter over four seasons in Buffalo. He was in the midst of a six-year, $59 million contract extension signed in October 2011.
The Bills should bring back Doug Flutie, he'd probably be a better qb for them than anything they've had for a while.
