Big Play: Stamps acquire Vernon Adams Jr. in trade with Lions

CALGARY — After much speculation of where Vernon Adams Jr. would be traded this off-season, the domino has finally fallen.

To the team I felt needed him the most.

Plus…

Also the Stamps receive BC’s fourth-round selection (32nd overall) in the 2025 Canadian Football League draft and the Lions’ third-round pick in 2026.

In exchange, Calgary sends its second- and fourth-round picks (ninth and 29th overall) in 2025 and its second-round pick in 2026 to BC.

Stamps are gonna be good again (I hope).

Also great trade package for BC. They get the Stamps 2nd round pick in this years draft while also swapping 4th round picks. They also snag the Stamps 2nd round pick in next years draft for their 3rd round pick.

Also this is exactly what the Stamps needed. They need a locker room presence. VA is that guy. His teammates love him.

Stamps instantly get better.
BC may have got rid of the wrong QB… Time will tell.

No surprise. He’s under contract so he isn’t going anywhere for 2025.

That likely means the Riders keep Harris another year & the pressure will be on to sign Ford in Edmonton. Should Harris get re-signed it’s very unlikely Ford is looking at a starting job anywhere else.

I agree with what Jim Barker said awhile back. Make him the highest paid backup in the league, loaded with incentives, & if he succeeds great - he makes good money. If not - I would bring MBT back & reverse the roles to start the season.

I agree with other opinions I have read that BC got very little for Adams. That was always likely going to be the case. At least they got to control where he went and they sent him to the team that arguably poses the least threat to them.

With decent money to be paid to Walker this almost certainly means Maier will end up somewhere else as a back up.

Still skeptical that pocket-passing guru DD will be able to tailor his playbook and playcalling to fit Adams, but good on Calgary for instantly upgrading at QB without paying an arm and a leg.

Agreed. But they still will be left hoping it is the team that will harm them the least.
They certainly would not have sent him to the Stamps if they thought he was the only piece that team needed to win the West

Dave D is not and has never been a one dimensional Coach

I believe that, with Vernon Adams and P.J. Walker, the Stampeders’ QB situation is light years improved from this past season.

Now the team better get out there and find some quality receivers; they can’t throw to Begelton very play.

Great QB
Great that he’s staying in the west

Kind of disagree, based on how he’s handled Maier, but we’ll see one way or another whether he can avoid trying to turn Vernon into a pocket statue.

There was and is far more wrong with the stamps than just Maier and what The head coach was doing. Yes Jake was not the guy but there was plenty enough other missing pieces that caused the stamps to falter the past two seasons

He was also the de facto OC, though. Not only could he not work with Maier, he actively chose Maier and threw BLM away. And BLM had himself a fantastic 2024 season.

I honestly think Dickenson’s reputation as a QB whisperer is greatly exaggerated.

That could very well be true

well, it takes more than just acquiring a QB who is known for having shitty games occasionally. Yes Adams is an upgrade from Maier but he isn’t perfect.

they need more than just him to be back on the winning track.

not to burst the mood but you do remember his stint in Montreal right? wasn’t exactly impressive. sure he’s improved but he did have some games in his seasons with BC where he was terrible. it’ll happen in Calgary too.

Hopefully a bad game for him in the playoffs vs the Riders

Kudos to BC for getting this done quickly, although I think they could have gotten more for VA. It will be interesting to see who, if any, FAs follow him to Calgary.

I will give credit to your thoughts. They have good validity.
However, I think if Huff even somewhat agreed with you, Dave woulda been fired already.
As it is if the stamps don’t catch fire in the early part of the season Dave will get fired then.
