Is this even a conversation? Nothing compares to the dynasty teams that the Eskimos had in the late 70’s to early 80’s… Any Warren Moon led team would demolish any other team. 1981 seems to be the pinnacle of greatness of any CFL team. According to everyone else’s statistics.
Re read the thread … 'best team ever " not dynasty ! The 96 or 97 Argo teams were very good ,Flutie was better than Moon ! Saying any Moon led team would demolish is foolish…MR. Wilkinson bailed out Moon a few times . They barely beat a garbage Rider team in the GC in 81 . This year’s Stamp’s team was very good and you can throw the 84 Bombers in to the mix that team is littered with HOF players.
Hard to argue against that “81” Eskimo squad as the best ever. The regular season saw them win 14 games against 1 loss and 1 tie. That tie by the way was on Labour day at a sold out Ivor Wynne Stadium against my Cats. I still consider that game as one of the best games I’ve ever watched at the old stadium (final score:34-34). The Eskimos lone loss of that season came in week 3 against the Bombers. Outside of these two blips they were perfect that season and if you include the Western Final and Grey Cup victories the Eskimos were an amazing 16-1-1 overall total for the season. The fact that they were losing the Cup at half-time by a 20-1 margin to without a doubt the Worst team in history to qualify for a Cup in the Riders doesn’t diminish this team in the least as they staged an amazing 2nd half comeback to wind up winning their 4th Cup in a row by a 26-23 margin. Yup IMO there’s no doubt about who should be crowned as the Best Team Ever…by a landslide…the 1981 Edmonton Eskimos :cowboy:
Your implication in your original post was that somehow the weather caused the mighty Eskimos to lose. This is of course ridiculous, they were just beaten that day. The weather, as I showed, was perfectly fine. So you come back with there was a fumble - so? And a kicker fell over because of the crappy turf? And this somehow gives the Eskimos an excuse for their loss?
Maybe you should more closely read my response. As I said “dynasty teams” as in any Eskimo team in the dynasty years. 1981 probably being the best. However Warren Moon threw for 5000 yards and 36-16 TD/INT in 82 and had even more yards in 83. The best “attribute” of any sports team is the ability to overcome ADVERSITY. Being down 20-1 like another poster said and coming back and holding the other team to 3 points the entire second half? That is DOMINANCE. That is how you know a team is the real deal.
Mr Craps. Moon is way ahead of Flutie in every category. In the NFL hall of Fame. Most Americans place Moon in the Top
10 QB of all TIME. He made it look so easy!!! Best ever one season or ten. Hands down
