best qbs of the last 25 yrs

doug flutie
Anthony calvillo
Matt dunigan
Jeff Garcia
Dave Dickensen
Kent Austin

Though I was never the biggest fan of his style, Danny Mac is 4th on the all-time yardage list and has 3 rings. He has to be somewhere on the list.

Some will argue for Allen's inclusion due to his records and longevity although he wasn't an electrifying QB.

I guess we will argue the meaning of "best".

AC, for sure. All he ever did was win.

best is what RR is nowhere near

I don’t include Allen because his season to season was nothing spectacular
I don’t include Danny mac because he threw too many ints and was nothing without Darren flutie

WHAT??? He was 3-5 in Grey Cup and could have been 2-6 if not for the Riders inability to count. Fixed your post for you because Calvillo was one of the worst playoff QBs in league history.

in no particular order..

Tracy Ham
Dave Dickenson
Doug Flutie
Anthony Calvillo
Damon Allen
Ricky Ray
Hank Burris
Jeff Garcia

AC, for sure. All he ever did was win in the regular season.

He won three Grey Cups. He’s the league’s three-time MVP. He’s pro football’s all-time passing leader. Yeah, he had some trouble in the playoffs. It’s the law of averages. He was in a lot of playoff games. The body of work is too big to ignore. My two cents.

He would be on my list, but he would be the last name on the list. He was in a week east division which is why he was in 8 Grey Cup games, but to have the record he did in those games is a huge black mark against him.

Ricky Ray
Dave Dickenson
Jeff Garcia
Matt Dunnigan
Damon Allen
Doug Flutie
Danny McManus
Tracy Ham
Henry Burris
Darian Durant

I’ll take any of them over Calvillo. Calvillo would get you in the playoffs, but you never knew if he would show up for the big game and far too many times he didn’t.

Hmm. Yeah, but he won three of those Grey Cups. There’s just no way to get around that.He won a lot of games. Ultimately, that’s what it’s all about. He was not the most talented QB of all time. I’d never say that. But I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a QB who made you pay for your mistakes like AC did. I don’t agree that there’s a “huge black mark” against AC. More like, some points left on the field.

For 1989-2013, 2 points for CFL all star and 1 point for division all star.

Calvillo 15.
Flutie 12.
Garcia 5.
Dunnigan 4. Allen 4. Burris 4.
Ray 3. Dickenson 3. Jones 3. Durant 3.

All other quarterbacks have 2 points or less. Clearly, Calvillo and Flutie are the best in previous 25 years.

how many points for GC MVP and league MOP?

Ray was a league All Star in 2006 and 2013, as well as divisional all star in both seasons. By your count he’d have 6 points.

Funny DC Moses! You would take Durant over Calvillo, but Calvillo beat Durant TWICE in the Grey Cup! Durant also has a losing record in Grey Cups…

Did you actually watch those Grey Cups? In 2000, The Als lost the GC because they could not stop Millington and Drummond on the ground. Pringle also fumbled twice.
In 2003, the Als lost because punt returner Keith Stokes dropped TWO punts (after touching the ball) in Alouette territory. Those 2 turnovers led to 10 Eskimo points. Also, Don Matthews started TWO rookie cornerbacks! Yup, 2 rookie cornerbacks in the Grey Cup  Ricky Ray picked on those rookies all game.
In 2005 Calvillo threw for over 300 yards and still lost.

The only truly really bad games Calvillo had in the GC, was 2006 and 2008. The other 6 he played good enough to give his team a chance to win :cowboy:

Flutie number 1 and probably Ray number 2 and Calvillo 3 . Dunnigan choked a few Grey Cups away. Was humiliated by Hamilton in 86, Allen saved him in 87, Dunnigan getting knocked out, led to Allen coming off the bench and sparking the Esks. In 88. lost to a very average Bomber team and threw a pic late in that game , when they were deep in Bombers territory. Won in 91 with a very good Argo team. In 92 , was out played by Flutie who was magic in that game. 24 - 10 flattered the Bombers. I think Championship games are very important to this list .

look up all star, gc mvp, mop and other awards for each player on the cfl.ca site and see how badly Ray fares against most of the others mentioned.

No Rocky Butler? Seriously?

an honorable mention goes to David Archer who was an excellent QB and made an immediate impact in the CFL during a brief tenure here.

a shame he did not come to the CFL earlier in his career..

X2

Ray and Calvillo could switch, if need be.

Flutie’s 6 MVP’s in 8 years is reason enough for him being number 1.

I see a lot of people have included RR as their top QB, I guess that’s not the answer you were looking for was it FYB

Anybody that doesn’t consider Ricky Ray as one of the top qbs, simply has no understanding of the game.

One qb that wasn’t necesarily a favourite of mine but I am surprized has not been mentioned is Khari Jones. former MOP and at least as good as some of the guys mentioned.
