Blue Bombers head coach Doug Berry on Winnipeg's draftees:
- Ibrahim (Obby) Khan, 6-foot-4, 305 pound OL (non-import)
-- "Khan's a very versatile offensive lineman. He's played every position and something we're looking for here is the versatility of linemen. And Khan's a young guy (25)."
- Val St. Germain, 6-foot-4, 305-pound OL (non-import)
-- "St. Germain (34) is a very experienced offensive lineman who gives us the same type of thing that Khan gives us. He's played a long time and can play at least four positions."
- Brad Banks, 5-foot-11, 201-pound QB (import)
-- "Brad Banks played at Iowa when they were a powerhouse team. I know the type of quarterback it would take to succeed in that type of offence so, I'm really confident of the type of player that Brad Banks can be."
- Hakeem Kashama, 6-foot-4, 267-pound DL (non-import)
-- "He's a guy who hasn't been healthy all the time yet but he's played at U-Conn in a major program in the Big East. He's more, 'We'll see what we get when we get him.' But he's shown good pedigree coming from a solid program."
- Cameron Legault, 6-foot-3, 270-pound DL (non-import)
-- "I've always liked Cameron when he was a noseguard in B.C., as well as Ottawa. He played well against us when I was in Montreal and I think he can compete in our defensive line situation here. He could give Doug Brown a little go for his money but again, who's going to back up Doug Brown?"
- Lenard Semajuste, 6-foot-3, 240 pounds (non-import)
-- "Semajuste is a big guy that played at a small college (Adams State). We're taking him on a, 'Let's see what we can get type of thing,' and he could possibly be a fullback-tight end and contribute on special teams."
- Henri Childs, 6-foot-2, 210 pound RB (import)
-- "Henri Childs is from Colorado State. He's played some running back there and he was also used as a wide receiver. We're looking forward to having a back that we can bring out of the backfield, someone who might complement (tailback) Charles (Roberts)."
- Robert Grant, 6-foot-1, 210-pound LB/DB (import)
-- "He would be a cover guy first and a linebacker second or he could line up a free safety if that's the direction where we want to go. He's a versatile guy. He could be the darkhorse of the draft."
Berry sounds pretty happy with the guys we got........I especially like his take on Grant, he could be the safety we have been looking for.........
