TORONTO — Under the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the CFL Players’ Association’s joint drug policy, BC Lions defensive lineman Sione Teuhema has been suspended for two games after testing positive for the banned substance Amfetamine.
He has been averaging 7 sacks per year (3 years) and a good number of tackles (average 32). One has to wonder how long he has been juicing and if getting caught will slow down his performance.
Not only that, but many players voluntarily take PED’s. Don’t let the standard excuses of not knowing it was in a medicine or a trainer did it or I got massaged, etc. fool you. The users are always a step ahead of enforcement, sometimes 10 years ahead like Lance Armstrong. It’s always been that way. Talk to players from the 60’s and 70’s. Although the drugs were different and less sophisticated there were literally barrels of them right in the dressing room. For every player caught I would wager that 4-10 players are not. Better percentage than the Mexican border, but still a long way to go in the war on drugs.
