Well there is about $650,000 and 2 player prospects that say there is.
The price of doing business. It’s like saying a billionaire did something wrong by paying more than a million in taxes.
OK then. You would think that paying that price for doing business would at least get them 1 playoff win, let alone the GC. Maybe they should just be very embarrassed at their incompetence at “Stretching the rules”.

That, and because their gym is a trailer on wheels and their stadium is a toilet bowl. But next year no more day old bagels and cornflakes for team brekky!
Cheating is intentionally doing something wrong and trying to get away with it. Rules are made to keep people within defined boundaries so there is a level playing field. But life doesn’t work perfectly. The CFL has fines in place and clearly they see smaller cap violations as minor issue hence the minor fine. Larger violation, larger fine. No ejection from the league but a choice to pay more or lose draft picks for overspending.
You can choose to speed, run a red light or jaywalk. If you do, your accepting the potential outcome of a fine. If you don’t get caught you get away with something. That makes you a cheater. I don’t see any whining about that.
A player can choose to hit another player late. If he’s caught he will be fined. It’s a penalty. play goes on.
What would be more egregious is if the penalty is missed. At least with the cap there’s an analysis at the end of the season and teams gone get away with it.
It is what it is and it isn’t likely to change much.
There’s a reason why Campbell was let go. Having said that Doman made multi-millions with the Grey Cup. 600k is peanuts. Lions already got a bonus for playing the most Canadians. They will be okay if they don’t get a couple of picks which they probably would have muffed up anyways.
The only addendum to the rules I would change would be in this case the two bottom teams should have received one player each, rather than one team receiving both.
There should be an additional penalty for teams going over the cap in multiple consecutive years.
The good thing in CFL is we rarely have back to back champions.
The worst part is a team has made the GC 5 years in a row…but its within the rules there should be no gripes.
I really agree that some teams , Winnipeg, to be specific has exceeded the wage cap in the last 4 years in a row and only received a fine. Every year they went over they were in the GC game. If they are not learning to abide with the CAP rules then why even have the CAP fines. They just do not seem to be working. It’s time to come down hard on violators to keep the playing field level for all teams.
Except 7 out of 9 teams have to agree to make that initiative. It’s not going to happen. Any team that hasn’t ever gone over the cap is in the minority. The league has structured itself to encourage overspending. They don’t want to be under the cap.
Time to raise the cap since teams have obviously have shown they are willing/able to do so
Winnipeg, to be specific, did not exceed the salary cap in the last 4 years in a row.
Huh? I don’t follow. Are you saying that the Flames are a money pit and in danger of folding or being sold? I was under the impression that like all Canadian NHL teams they make money hand over fist. I don’t see how the Flames allegedly being poor, which they are not as far as I am aware, has anything to do with the CFL salary cap. The Bombers made by far the most money of any CFL team last year yet didn’t go over the cap and made it to the GC. It has to do with management in my opinion.
you guys… Toronto Saskatchewan and Ottawa didn’t intentionally go over the cap, they had to in order to pay those extra players they brought in due to injuries etc.
BC intentionally went over the cap by bringing Rourke and that Defensive player onto a team knowing full well they’d go over the Cap. THAT should not be allowed.
So Rourke and Betts shouldn’t be in the league at all. I thought the whole point of the league was to give Canadian athletes an opportunity to play football at a professional level. To be fair, other people agree with you that the league should get rid of the ratio.
Again there are rules which kick in if you go over the CAP. There are no rules saying you CAN’T go over the CAP. Sure BC intentionally exceeded the CAP - so what? When the Bomber media urged the team to go after Lawler & spend whatever $$$ necessary with the GC at home, I had no problem with that. It’s not illegal.
I do agree that the consequences for exceeding the CAP should be reviewed & that draft picks should be involved beside fines in the initial tier. Maybe not a 1st rounder but fines aren’t enough. Toughen it up to discourage spending over the CAP.
I agree that the rules could stand some toughening up, but all of this is meaningless unless they do away with the “marketing money” concept. This turns the cap into a farce. Doesn’t Rourke’s contract have something like $200,000 annually in marketing money baked in? It’s simply not a level playing field.
not if they go over the salary Cap to do it. they should be told, you can have Rourke but you need to make changes so that he fits in the Salary Cap.
Duh
again they knew that this would put them over the Cap but didn’t care.. they purposefully did it in order to obtain Rourke.
its one thing if you go over because if you don’t, you won’t have enough players for your starting roster… but doing it blatantly just to have Rourke on your team is wrong.
The only reason that Rourke, Betts and the rest of the Canadians get so much money is because their salaries are over inflated because of the ratio. I don’t understand why you continue to attack it but as I said before you are one of many.
