Should be a great game with a ton of fans. Can’t believe Rourke is going to start so soon.
Wonder if the Lions will keep trying to keep Whyte’s FG record intact by not letting him kick long field goals.
I know when he was last in Edmonton, they figured his range was 40-45 yards. He’s attempted 27 this year, 9 of those 40+ yards & 3 of those 9 over 50+ yds. So, no, IMO they don’t worry about that.
If you’re going to not have your kicker try longer FG’s what happens if in a game for all the marbles he hasn’t done that in game conditions for awhile? I can see teams punting rather than attempting a FG from, say, even 40 yds out if they have a chance to pin another team deep rather than chance a missed FG which could result in instant field position. As we saw in Regina, nothing is guaranteed whether a kicker has the leg or not.
Not to diminish what Whyte has done, let’s not forget the stadium he plays in half the time. That’s different than kicking in Wpg, Ham or Mosaic.
I would sure hope not. Isn’t he like a year out from sniffing Lewis Ward’s record? I get making sure he doesn’t pooch it if he’s close, but if he’s kicking another 20+ field goals, it should be done on merit.
I don’t think they are worried at all. They have had the ability to choose punt or field goal from from long distance this season.
I remember an old coach here saying “If you kick a lot of long field goals - something is wrong with your offence.” Outside a couple games they haven’t had problems with their offence.
So Whyte has not been called on to “rescue” the team with long kicking, except maybe that walk off 42 yarder vs. the Elks.
Excellent point. Field position is also so important in football. Sometimes you are giving up a chance to get six down the road when you settle for long FGs consistently.
Add to that the likely hood of a run back increases the longer the field goal attempt is. Plus outside the 3 minute warning the oposition have the option of scrimmaging from their 40 yard line.
Yes. A long miss likely flips the field against you in two scenarios. Whyte’s range is in the low 50s but man is he money inside the 50.
Let’s see how much rust rourke has and if his first year as a starter was a flash in the pan. My money is on him being back to form and dominating the rest of the year bringing bc to the finals.
Yes. I think that he is the difference maker in the West. Scales are certainly tipped.
I really like it when when the Lions wear the fog pants at home opposite the Black jerseys. It is a much cleaner look. I do wish that they were white though. The Blue pants on the Bombers looks good too. Very aesthetic game. That is my weekly fashion comment.
As a Bomber fan it’s sure nice to have Lawler back.
that rouging the passer came back to hurt em
Very nice drive!
Even with the missed, blatant no yards
Absolutely, he is also one of those receivers that makes everyone around him better in my opinion. Your Bombers are very much in the mix in the West.
Even though we’re tied for last place right now (I should put a question mark here).
And only 5 points out of first too. A win tonight would put you 3 points back. It is a crazy year.
