LOL Early in the game I was critical of him for his poor runbacks and mistakes over the past few games ( crashing into the other running back in the backfield, lined up wrong on the play when the ball was snapped early and hit Burris in the chest. Right after I commented, he made a couple of good plays then the run back. Boy, did I feel foolish. I guess that is why I am home watching the game and Austin is the coach
I’m not completely sold on this guy YET. Sure, he had one great run-back at a critical point which changed the momentum of the game but he has not been consistant as was Thigpen and Williams, perhaps that will come. I’m hopeful that he has turned a corner and his confidence has grown. This can only be a great plus for us in the next few weeks.
As most of the posters on this forum already know, football is an extremely complicated game. Each offensive player needs to know many plays, each play with many variations. Also, players need to know the responsibilities of teammates and then has to recognize various defences. Add to all of this, a player who is used to 11-man football, 50x100 yd fields and no motion and it's not difficult to see how a guy like Banks may take some time to get his feet under him (no pun intended) and let his innate talent shine through. Remember, Banks did not have the benefit of a training camp. Let's cut these guys some slack and show the same patience the coaching staff do. Last year we were dreadful, this year we have a young exciting team with a tremendous upside and a 1 in 6 chance to be Grey Cup Champions (as opposed to no chance in 2012).
Brandon Banks is lightning in a bottle. He's only going to get better with time. I would be moving him around quite a bit on offense and make defences have to think!
Awesome game from banks but dude you cant start celebrating and run away from the ball on a missed field goal ever but especially not at a super critical point of the game, that was scary stuff.
Kudos to the coaching staff for giving Banks some situations which allowed him to shine. Boy is he fast!! He could possibly run neck and neck with Chris Williams in a sprint. Too bad for Chris, he's missing out on all the fun so that he can languish on some practice team in New Orleans; however, I guess he needs to think of his future.
I wouldn't want to be the Als' defensive coordinator, nor the Argos' defensive coordinator for that matter (there's absolutely no doubt that we'll be seeing the Argos before this season is over!!!).
Indeed. But i still expect another close game as the als should be better prepared for him and the three headed QB monster that was unleashed on them. Not sure how far you can go with that. Burris needs to step it up ASAP.
Im sure that the Als staff will strategize for this with the time they have. Im also sure that Austin and Condell have other plans and wrinkles to implement for this one as well. They certainly are wise and experienced enough not to unleash everything in the one game when they know that the same opponent will be back for a third time in about two weeks.
It may well be another close one. And with so much on the line, Henry will be ready. Kent Austin a former Grey Cup winning quarterback will work on that.
The Als haven`t had good special teams for a long time. That trend will be hard to reverse in a few days.
Banks is the reason we won this game. 2 TDs...one on a long catch and run, the other on a missed field goal return. He was almost catch from behind right at the end of the last one though. We should try to get the ball in his hands more. We also need to use CJ to get a ground game going, not a revolving door of 3 QBs, 2 of which usually run the ball. The change up is becoming too predictable...different QB(Masoli), but same wrinkle.
I think the key to a good returner is not just flat out speed. Williams has a sort of vision and awareness to see where the holes are and where the lanes will open up. It seems that Banks has this ability also. When he first got the ball on the missed field goal he wasn’t flat out burning until he juked himself into a clear lane and saw the blocking scheme. A lot of fast runners don’t seem to have this ability.
Speaking of Williams was watching the Bills-Saints game yesterday and talking on the phone with my son, when we both said at the same time…Hey there’s Williams, yup as plain as day laughing it up on the sidelines with his sweats on was good old Chrissie. As a diehard Saints fan,I’ve been telling everybody that unless something drastic happens,I doubt that Williams will even see the field this year,Saints are too talented and deep on the roster,so enjoy that P.R. money Chris,we have a new little man in town, same height, same weight, same speed, same excitement level…only difference is,is that Banks wants to PLAY football, not just stand around and watch.
Yup, And I would have been doing the same thing with Chevon Walker all season. His numbers don’t look good, but when you consider how many games he missed due to “injury” or was a healthy scratch, and the few times he has even touched the ball.
I suspect he is on a standard 2 year contract, might he try to jump, in spite of his low numbers?
