TORONTO — Even from afar, Chris Streveler never stopped feeling the love from Bombers fans.
He was the bride in 2019 though, except the bride wore fur and no shirt.
Who knows what the future holds for him. Maybe his goal is to replace Zach as the starter in a year or two, although he would need a new contract. He would also need to stay healthy which isn’t a given considering how he plays the game. For this year at least he should be part of an unstoppable running attack and I almost forgot, an elite air attack.
It’s probably safe to assume that no one offered him starter money. At about the $110,000 the Bombers are paying him he probably wouldn’t sign with a different team for even as much as $150,000, considering his wallet is still flush with NFL money and a future pension. If someone offered him $400,000 or more he might very well have taken it.
Personally I would rather have him as my starter over the unproven Dru Brown and the still standing out in the pasture BLM, those being the teams with the weakest QB rooms in my opinion (Toronto’s possibly very weak QB room didn’t exist when Chris signed with Winnipeg as Chad’s shenanigans were still under rug swept).
Anything is possible. As a Bomber fan I’m just happy to have both of them. Streveler only signed for one year though if I remember correctly.
Who knows what will happen with Zach? He is one hit to the head away from retirement. Maybe his play will decline and the Bombers will cut him after year 2 of his current contract. Maybe he will continue to excel and sign another contract as you suggest is possible. One thing for sure is that Streveler will play lots this year assuming he remains healthy, even if Zach is healthy and playing well. Love the two headed monster thing.
The rest of us will do our best not to throw up.
I have a different view. Why should everyone want to be CEO? To use a political example ( sorry), Paul Martin was very highly respected as a Finance minister. As PM, not so much.
Prukop didnt have starter QB in him, but best short yardage guy around.
I think Strevy will do just fine in the league and in particular in this situation.
My 2 cents.
Good signing by Wpg but, seriously, he’s a one trick pony. Streveler digressed with more playing time in his 2nd CFL season. He started 8 games in 2019 - 8 TD’s, 14 INT’s. Teams know what Streveler brings & IMO his passing game doesn’t scare anyone. Tossing 14 INT’s in 234 pass attempts - that’s a brutal %.
Streveler’s value is his running. There’s no reason to believe he’s going to be an adequate CFL passer. Nice to have 2 excellent runners but with Chris back, Oliveira’s totals are likely to go down.
I am very curious to see if this holds true now.
The Streveler I remember was mostly a one-trick pony and bruising runner as you say. But he has a lot more experience of the pro game now, rubbed shoulders with future HOF NFL QBs, and has had time to improve the throwing side of his game.
Not saying that he will come out and be the next Ricky Ray, but I am cautiously curious and excited to see what the evolution and maturing of his passing game will look like at this stage in his career.

If I had a dollar for every time someone said Streveler was going to be a decent passer I’d have…a dollar. A lot of this “hope” comes from his NFL coach last year musing about Chris having the best pre-season EVER. OK - so what exactly did that translate to in REAL football games? NFL pre-season pits a plethora of 2nd & 3rd stringers against each other. Has he’s evolved his passing game from the bench & in practice the last 4 years down south donning the red jersey? Streveler reminds me of Tim Tebow, more than anyone. Big guy, VG runner.
I wish him success. The Bombers IMO have to hope they don’t find out what he can or can’t do as the #1.
I agree, I do not want to find out what Streveler as starter looks like.
First welcome to the site,
Second what you say is very true…the double threat of Streveler and Brady’s ability to bust a move will give the front line and maybe the safety’s, nightmares. Fur coat man won’t need to look too far downfield for completions. But a upright Zach is necessary.
Why do a lot of comments always bring up the one hit to Zachs` head comment, every player is in the exact same position. Anyone playing is only one hit to the head away from retirement, not just Zach and he has been pretty durable since coming to the Peg in 2019. Just MHO.
No doubt he has been durable but let’s face it, if you have a history you are more vulnerable. Not only to a serious injury but more susceptible to a minor hit causing injury. So far he has done pretty well since getting Simoni’d and didn’t miss much after getting Robertsoned. I’m not worried, but as you said, it is a reality for any player and especially a QB that is older and has an injury history.
