Austin steps down

New HC June Jones wow

There you go…someone new to blame…
May the finger pointing begin…
Good luck, June.

As long as KA is in the organization, losing will be his fault.
Clearly this was the plan when they hired JJ - but they probably figured they would fast forward considering this year is a write off. Its a good move considering Kent was always going to relinquish the head coaching duties soon, I figured it would be Orlondo. Him leaving threw a wrench in those plans.
Its the right thing to do when the head coach is already in house. I suspect O Coordinator will be the next change.

June isnt my first choice but we’ll see how he does. At least we have a chance to evaluate and make a decision in the off season. Couldnt be happier that we’re finally taking the necessary steps forward

Wait for it:

" A new Head Coach?? But that means change!!!! Oh no...not the revolving door :'(!!!! How will we survive this when all we had to do was was wait a bit longer for things to gel!!!!!"

But seriously folks......gutsy move on Kent Austin's part. That ends the criticism of him for me.
Maybe the rest of this season will show some improvement as the re-building progresses.

We now have something positive to cheer for. Good luck June Jones.
Thanks Kent. ;D

Really??

I don’t recall reading or hearing about this!!

Clearly??

Orlondo was considering a top head coaching candidate in the league, just prior to his departure to Fresno State.

I’m sure other GM’S in the CFL were disappointed too…

Unless we see a resurgence and new energy from every player on the team, I really hope Jones is here interm. The goal here should be to groom a young HC not go all in on a 65 year old whose last experience coaching in the CFL was over 30 years ago.

Smart to do this now to give Jones time to get started now - with the hope that he will be able to start off next season running.

“That ends the criticism of him for me.”

I’m sure Kent will sleep nights knowing that…

Maybe the rest of this season will show some improvement as the re-building progresses.

And what if it doesn’t…I guess your whining and complaining will start all over again…along with a call for a new coach…

And he’ll have more time to evaluate those players and coaches around him…

The point of him giving Orlondo the AHC title and raise. As well as the clause that says he couldn’t go anywhere else during his tenure here made it pretty clear that was the succession plan.
But you’re right, there was no press conference stating this.

Most intriguing response to the Ticats’ Facebook post:

Earl Winfield

Any chance of me working with the receivers and return specialist #reaching out.

Wow! I hope June Jones can run good routes and has good hands, or can block on charging D-linemen, otherwise Zach is still throwing to the same guys behind the same line.

I guess now we will see if all the "Austin has to go" guys were right?

I like this move, It gives Jones 10 games (or more ;)) to get things straight on this team.

Lets try to be patient and give him a chance. 8)

I was led to understand that the reason for the exclusivity clause in Orlondo's contract was to ensure continuity within the coaching staff.

It might have been assumed by some that the promotion to assistant head coach was to signify a succession plan, but he had done such a good job with the defense, it might have also been a reward.

From the Hamilton Spectator....

"Nonetheless, Steinauer is poised to fulfil the terms of his three-year deal, which expires after this season. The promotion, and likely pay bump, is a recognition of that commitment as well as a nod to the generally excellent job he's done thus far."

This still doesnt mean anything because we dont know if Austin still has the controls of the who, what, where, when, how and why of recruitment. If he still controls those decisions, then this wont help player quality in the future, and we will still be where we are today.

If his control is drastically reduced (ie he signs off on all moves presently), or replaced with an individual or individuals who actually can name and describe a specific player on another CFL team, and can actually assess players all across North America, then we will be taking the first step toward team stability.

Things may or may not improve this year on the field, but my concern is not this year, it is who is responsible for bringing in QUALITY players AND coaches in the future. If it is Austin, then today's news is fake news just to appease the fans.

Patience is not what some of this crowd is good for…
They much prefer panic and knee jerk reactions…

I wonder if this increases the chances of Reinebold coming back in some capacity? He’s pals with Jones, and wouldn’t have to work with Austin (awkward) on a daily basis.

Eric Tillman is the GM…
