Artist`s rendering of Pan Am stadium

BTW…most here are discussing…not whining! We’ll leave that for you over on that lonesome site where you get to talk to yourself!

FYI…the reason people put out these idea’s is to gauge reaction to designs…to generate input and opinion.

It’s healthy! What is not healthy is berating people for participating in these forums and having an opinion.

If there is to be a new stadium in Hamilton…I would hope that we would get lots of ideas.

Well said woody. It's an emotional issue and we want to put our input into this, all of us, even if it might be premature but as you say, sparking the discussion is good because the Toronto/Ontario bid just might win this thing and then look out, a new stadium is coming, like it or lump it, and the more ideas the better I'm sure.

I have no problem with the picture submitted for the Pan Am Committee. The submission has all kinds of possibilities after the games:

  1. The track can be removed and seating installed there.

  2. The smaller side and the end zones can be developed.

  3. I like the idea of a canopy over the larger seating area.
The same could apply after modification of the smaller side.

Relax! What you're looking at is a submission for the games; not for football.

First things first, to build a brand new stadium specifically for the PanAM games and then adjust it for use by the Tiger-Cats is backwards.

The PanAm Games, despite what many people like to think, is a third rate sporting event. Without looking it up, can anyone name where the last PanAM Games were held? Can anyone tell me how many medals Canada won last time out?

And please don't mention the development of amatuer sports etc etc etc. Seems we did just fine at the last Olympics without a PanAm Stadium in Hamilton.

So really, we should be building a football stadium, if any stadium at all, and telling the PanAm Games to fit themselves into our stadium, or find somewhere else to play.

Secondly, considering that any PanAm Games held in Toronto, Hamilton or anywhere else in this province will be funded by you and I; I would much prefer that we build as little as possible for as cheap as possible. Remember that as much as we'd like to think about the glorious memories of running on tracks, throwing javelins and bicycle racing, nobody pays to see these events once the third rate Games are over.

So rather than get left with a stadium, archery range, hammer toss park and velodrome that no one cares about or uses and end up empty, forgotten or turned into a Biodome (Montreal) as a last ditch desperate measure, why not concern ourselves and our team with either a refurbished IWS that everyone already loves, or a new stadium built specifically for football.

As much as I don't care for soccer, the MLS has the right idea on insisting on soccer specific venues where everything else is secondary.

And talking about soccer, a good point was brought up regarding a PanAm Games stadium. Would our new field, ringed by a thick track and separating the real paying football fans from the action, also have to accommodate a soccer field sized playing surface?

What Hamilton needs is a football stadium, not a catchall field that tries to please everyone and satisfies no one.

Agreed, there can be amendments to the stadium after the Games. They can also put up a “DOME” so it can be used in the winter too!!

yes the site lines may not be perfect but if this is the only way to get a new stadium go for it. It looks good.

Building a new stadium will probably not generate much extra revenue. Its not like the cats are losing money because the venue doesn't have enough seats to satisfy demand...let's face it, the ticats haven't had a legit sellout in years. I don't think that a new stadium will bring a whole lot to the local economy either, let's face it the cats play 10 games a year there, and the stadium will be unusable from November to April. The Cats arent making money because the Cats arent drawing. As far as I can see, the Cats aren't drawing for one simple reason...they havent been a good team in quite a while. I doubt that the fans are staying home because they don't like IWS.....they are also staying home because the Cats undervalued their product by flooding their limited market with freebie tix or gimmick promotions.

Lets be honest here.....if anyone says that they would pay $$$$$ to see a crummy product would it really matter if the team was playing in IWS or the Taj Mahal????

I like this stadium rendering with the open end towards the bay

Now THAT'S more like it.

Wouldn't that be nice

Will the palm trees come with it?

In regard to Syphon’s post:

Sure you can rip on the Pan Am games all you want but without a winning bid guess what…you won’t have a new stadium at all.

Not sure how much concessions account for revenue, but one thing is for sure. The concessions ar IWS are insufficient.

I’m sure the Ti-Cats can come up with some other revenue generating ideas for any new stadium.

Yes, I like it even with the Palm Trees. Some fake ones would be great.

I'm hoping that it could house a Casino for extra revenue and the Dome for use in the winter for soccer/football etc in the winter.

The signt lines look Really bad...
I am telling you I'd Rather fix IWS

Casinos aren’t the answer to any problems.

how about yellow seats at our new stadium .... cool

I think they should make the seating steeper that way the overhang provides more cover for the seats, they save land, AND the sight lines will be better.

Edit: that looks much better, Kirk.

Photos are labelled as Commonwealth stadium. Wonder how much it'll resemble the newer Pan Am version.

Huh?? JProblems? who mentioned problems??

It generates some revenue!! and gets people to the stadium when its not in use.

Just to be clear, I’m pulling these pics off the net.

If you’ll notice, the two pictures are from different perspectives. One is viewed from a slightly higher angle.
