Argos Still a threat in the East

Yeah, what a bunch of idiots we are, filling a stadium for a 2-16 team. We should know better and stop showing up.

Oh no, wait. We got crapped on for that, too. :?

Totally agree with all of this analysis, and rationale.

Well any team that has Ricky Ray at QB is going to be a threat to win the East IMO. As long as Owens and Durie are healthy the Argos will be able to score points. Barker has also signed 5 or 6 pretty intriging import receivers for this season and even if only two of them can be as good as advertised the Argos will be ahead of the game from last year. Young Canadians Coombes and Adjei are going to be good players eventually as well.
The big thing IMO will be how well the defense plays. Quite a few second year players now coming back this year and that should make a big difference. Only thing that can shoot them down is injuries again to key players. They didn't have the depth last year to over come injuries to Owens and Durie etc.

Area51…Argos are the team to beat ? Really ? Why ? Oh yeah that’s right, yer little brother is back on the team !!
Area51…Ottawa fans are clueless ? Really ? Why ? At least they HAVE FANS unlike another team that’s hopeless and soon to be homeless
Area51…Montreal is MUCH closer to how they played in the first half of the season than in the last half ? Really ? I guess you haven’t been paying much attention as to how Jim Popp has done by far the best job of re-signing the majority of his team’s FA’s as well as everyone else’s FA’s this off season. Meanwhile your GM seems to be more concerned with lining up for seconds in the buffet line at the Good Sheppard because your absentee owner has sewn his pockets shut and is so cheap that rumour has it that when he squeezes a nickel the beaver bites the Queen’s arse.

Prediction…the Argos will be hard pressed to equal last seasons win total of 8
Prediction…You are absolutely right it will be a two team race in the East…between Hamilton and Montreal
Prediction…The RB’s will once again play in front of sell out crowds next season while the Argos will play in front of crowds made up of strictly family and friends
Prediction…The Argos will still SUCK next year, but it won’t matter much because the majority of Toronto it seems are clueless when it comes to sports anyway…especially the sport of football.

I would agree with that. I like Adjei as well. I think getting injured his Sr season at U of Buffalo set him back a bit as he was set to be their starting SB but will get more of a chance to play with Watt gone. I think that Milanovich sees him as stepping into a receinvg role to replace Watt. It could take up through that first third of the season (games 1-6) for him to get comfortable As well as sort through some of the other new receivers. Which is not uncommon for any CFL team now to use games 1-6 to work new players and new things into the offense before settling a bit more for the start of game 7-12.
Every team will be going through the same thing. Ottawa and Montreal both have a lot of new receivers. Hamilton again will be sorting through a new and better Oline unit. As well as figuring out a backfield which could include a 1-2 punch of Gable and Grigsby.
What are your thoughts of Ownens being taken off of all return duties (except for spot situations) to keep him healthier as the main 2 receivers?

I am not sure how anyone cant see that Ottawa will be much improved in year two. Having to will retool the whole receiving corp will take time to gel. I dont think anyone will argue that the 4 new receivers are a big upgrade in talent and all will likely be in the starting lineup and/or part of the main sets and scheme packages. Again TC, Preseason, and games 1-6 will be spotty as they come together as a unit. Plus for Ottawa is they will not be disrupted for their TC home at Carleton and home pre season game fairly close. Whether they do play in QC or in Montreal at McGill. As well will have their home stadium for the first month unlike Hamilton and Toronto.
Will Ottawa win the GC not yet. Playoffs maybe/maybe not. Much Much improved over a two win team? No doubt they are.

Montreal as well will have no disruption in their TC, Preseason, or first month. As it will be business as usuall with first part of TC at Bishops in Sherbrooke area then back to McGill for home Pre season and pre season close in QC or possiblily still at their own stadium vs Ottawa. Having an offensive system that was put in during the second half of last season to enter this season is something that has not happened for two seasons. Montreal as well have a big change over in their receivers. SJ Green is the X factor that Ottawa does not have. As well as the well secured Oline Unit

Hamiton has gotten its solid core in place now after two seasons under the new regime. Obtaining a healthy Woodson will gie them a true offensive skill player to play that FB/H-Back spot. Tasker, Fantuz, and a soild Receiver in Koch all will be returning as well as Banks who really broke out as a receiver for the first time in his career. So far no Grant, Giguere is gone. Working in Watt and late season addition Sinkfield. I don't think Coates is the answer as a 3rd National receiver and Aprille will likely get worked into the mix slowly.
Offensive line is still a work in progress as they find the right combo of players. Has Figs developed into the LT they expected, Dyakowski healthy could secure the Left side. Simmons was an all sta at RG. will they be able to keep him there or move him to RT. Center and a second OL on the right side are a question right now. The deep deep National talent of defense gives them a solid 3 ratio spots so 3 Internationals on the Oline are possible again.
Yes they got to the playoffs unlike Toronto and the GC unlike Montreal but it was very close coming down to week 20 before anything was decided. They have lost OLineman and have yet to replace them. Like Toronto just because they did not go after a name guy in CFL FA does not mean they have or will not find just as good or better from within or from new internationals.

Lets not be too quick to dub the West super superior. Hamilton and Ottawa will have fully functional packed new stadiums for the whole season now. Montreal has finalized it full coaching staff this season after a two year search. Of course do not ever count out Milanovich and Ray. After the first 4 games The Argo's do not need to leave southern ontario only for 4 more games. 8 in Toronto and 2 in Hamilton. Enables them to sleep in their own beds and practice at their own facility much of the rest of the season.

Every team in the East has improved, except the Argos ! Keep drinking the Blue Kool-Aid Argos fans ! they will be lucky to make the playoffs again  just looking at the Argos schedule, it's very possible they could go 0-6 to start the season !

For the good of the league, Your Cats can’t possibly go back to the Grey Cup. How many times do we have to see them lose the championship game before we eventually ban them from it? Since 1980, they have a stunning 2-7 record in Grey Cup games. For those of us that cheer for the East, it’s difficult to watch.

I’d rather go to the Grey Cup than miss the playoffs :rockin: From 1952 to 1983 the Argos had the longest streak of not going to the Grey Cup !

I guess it is a matter of opinion to think that the Argo's did or did not do anything to improve.
They did not pull any of the CFL free agents off the board but they have managed to get many of their top end draft picks under contract, even if some took some time, the last few seasons. Several of which are starting and still getting better.
They locked up Tyler Holmes after a couple of seasons in the NFL and has been an immediate impact starter on the Oline and will again be even better in 2015. Cleyon Laing has been an impact at DT since his rookie season and has been and will continue to be one of the 3 DTs that rotate all seeing equal time.
Jermaine Gabrial 17th overall pick in 2013 has also been an impact player at Safety from the get go. from splitting time with Matt Black to becoming a bonified starter in 2014 with Black being injured. Also will be better and better this season and beyond.
Top Argo Pick in 2014 Anthony Coombs is a special player for sure. He showed he can play at the CFL level right away. Yes he did get hurt but so do many other players. Getting injured and being out for the season is never a good thing but it allowed Coombs to get some quality PT before injury then watch and learn. He can pick up some of the returner duties with Owens being more relied as a receiver. As well an offense with many looks, Packages, and player groupings he will make an impact for sure.
Top Pick in OL Matt Sewell have all signs leading to being a top OT. In his second full season he will compete for a starting job on the Oline could see him on the Right side of the line next to all star National OT/OG Van Zeyl.
Gennwood spending 3 full NFL seasons with the Chiefs. Role was mostly special teams but playing University in CIS he is not far removed from the Canadian game. Although not a starter on defense being a back up and Team Players places him as a scout team defender going up against the best in practice each week.
Foley is the obvious one big Acquisition. He was not a free agent but he was added via trade.
Tristian O. a young International DE. He did not come from CFL FA but came via NFL FA route. Rave reviews from Ricky Foley on how his game went to another level by the end of his first CFL season and will be even better with a whole season and TC under his belt.
Again so while it appears they did not make any improvements with no CFL FA signings there are so many different and sources to upgrade a CFL team.
Many every season for every team come from previous unknown imports. So to judge anyone on improvements yet is jumping the gun.
Inman and Chiles seemed to come from nowhere but they came from somewhere. A good eye for talent and easy to get lost among the NFL mass of players.
Wahington and Rogers as well came via the Arena Football league and by the end of their first season's and start of their second seasons both were top starting LTs

Hamilton just finished ahead of Toronto last season. They have also lost a number of key players on the Oline, DB, receiver. They really only replaced a receiver with the signing of Watt. To think that Austin does not have several upgrade options that are coming from within or through new international signings would be Naive.
Ellingson, Tasker, Reed, Norwood, Breaux, to name a few were all impact players, starters, All Stars who came via other major sources. none of which any heard in the CFL before they hit the field.

:oops:Sad but true  I have to agree, unfortunately not the best record, but at least we're not as bad as those Melon heads from Saskatchewan who have a record of 4 wins and 15 defeats at the Cup in their entire history.

Interestingly enough the Cats have lost and won by large margins in Cup blow outs but in their defence they have also lost some last minute heart breakers as well in those 9 games. If you take a look at the results they could easily be sitting at 5-4 instead of 2-7.

1980-lost…Edmonton…48-10 (-38)
1984-lost…Winnipeg…47-17 (-30)
1985-lost…B.C…37-24(-13)
1986-won…Edmonton…39-15(+24)
1989-lost…Saskatch…43-40(-3)(last second fg)
1998-lost…Calgary…26-24(-2)(last second fg)
1999-won…Calgary…32-21 (+11)
2013-lost…Saskatch…45-23(-22)
2014-lost…Calgary…20-16 (-4)(holding penalty on last minute punt return td )

The two Hamilton teams that went to the GC were much less complete than they will be this season.
2013 had to be a complete surprise, just getting there was a major accommplishment.
2014 a much more prepared and goal of winning was in place from the season's start. Truly on paper the Stamps had the best team and were favored to win but the Cats were good enough to nearly pull off the upset with a first year young starting QB.
Still some work to do on offense but have major pieces firmly in place with no questions. QB, Fantuz, Tasker are both solidified as top receivers. Filling out the receiving corp can be done in stages with the talent on board. The Oline the same thing. A Dual RB situation may evolve. Both are now expereinced and the roles can be worked out through the 3 stages of the season as well.
The defense is set and a stout unit. Special teams have all the pieces

LOL…I’m just messing with you Cats fans…Except for TC23…He just ignant.

LOL!!! So I’ve gotta ask what’s worse ? Being Cluless or Ignant  :cowboy:

So you hate the fact the TCats have been East champs twice in a row,
Fact is they earned it.
What about the Als who went 4 times in a row without a win. 03 - 05 - 06 - 08.
They would have made 5 trips without a win in 09 if Sask’s SEAN LUCUS had not been the 13’th man on the field.

( Wonder if he ever got over that ? )

I got sick of seeing Montreal in the EF or GC every season from 00 - 06 - 08 - 11. Yet they earned it.
BTW, Als have the stupidest logo in all of sports . Birds do not have teeth and they can not hold a football.
I call for a redo.
And you suggest banning the Cats.

The new NORMAL is the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East. Might bother some people but get used to it I say.

Won’t bother me.

I am a Stamps fan , but also a league fan. We had our moment and now it is time for some others to enjoy.

I vote the Cats.

I think the Cats will be like 84 - 85 - 86.

In other words , they will win it in 2015.

Als are just picking up cast offs.

Cats are loaded on offence , and the Zach Attack has valuable experience.
