Argo's S*u*c*k Chant

Glad to see the old chant is alive and well!!!!

It brought tears to my eye's to that chanted once again... I know that they have tried to encourage the elimination of suck chants... But hey its all in fun!!!

Such a vulgar word you can't even say it this forum...gimme break

I saw parents and children alike, all chanting it and having a great time at the game....too bad the kids are now going to be scarred for life, for using such evil, evil language....

GO CATS GO!!!!

Can't wait for Labour Day!!!!!

...it's the way it's supposed to be. It's part of child-rearing in the Hammer.

Can't wait to unleash it when the blue boys come out through the tunnel.

Hey - that's great.
At least it's an orginal chant.

One thing I hate is that old chant stolen/copied from the Habs/Leafs/Sens or whoever we stole it from.
"GO..(insert whoever)....GO" "GO..(insert whoever)....GO" God I hate that stupid chant! What does it mean??? can someone tell me?

Yeah, but its hard to be much more creative...gotta be pretty dead simple if you're gonna get 30k doing it in unison.

The Ar--- s---!! Chant is a part of Ticat tradition. That`s the way it will always be. I still have an old Arg--- s---!! button that I bought at the stadium. Does anyone know if they still sell them??

I do too loyal, and a headband and a T-shirt

Classic Ticat stuff thats for sure…

Im sure come labour day, at Scott Park someone will be selling this kinda stuff, there always is!

And I agree with you all! I was born and raised and will raise my own so that they know the Argo’s S-u-c-k!!!

Absolutely Hushcat,

I`m right there with you. I remember going to Exhibition stadium. When I was 16 with my Arg--- s--- button on my jacket. The Blue team fans were really giving me the evil eye.

I didn`t care, though. Just supporting our team!!!

It was great.

Argos s*ck was one of the first phrases my kids could say. Of course it sounded a lot more like Gargos Kuck though..lol

I know it’s been said many times before but worth repeating. Never, ever mess with this chant or else you might find the Ticats losing more often than not. And how true we have seen this happen. Sacriledge!

Nope, DISAGREE, totally.

It is completely CLASSLESS, and CRUDE.

I don't want my 5 year old daughter listening to that kind of VILE SPIT coming from others mouths at a Professional football game. For that matter, I don't want my 2 year old son EXPOSED to such PRIMAL, VILE spit either.

Tell me this ... If it is OKAY to SCREAM "ARGOS $ U CK" ... is it equally ACCEPTABLE to SCREAM "Als SWALLOW ?", or how about "Bombers BLOW", what about "Lions LICK ?" ... cuz' after all it's just another VERB, RIGHT ?

Gimme a BREAK !! I'll PARAPHRASE a quote from Forrest Gump's mother -"STUPID is as STUPID SAYS" ... and "Argos $ U C K" is a STUPID CHANT !!

Peace.

i think when we say "Argos S**k" we mean that they are a ummmm bad team?

Example: "Argos are crap" (excuse my language, its just an example)

or...."Argos are bad"

but we say "Argos s**k" because 2 two words go together better than anything else.

We are not saying that the argos....(well you know what you were referring too)

Hey Meanstreak, taking life a little seriously aren't we?? Come on, it is a football game, the chant is a Hamilton tradition.

Your 5 and 2 year old might be thrown in a corner for saying it but my three year old absolutely encouraged to say it to say it especially around her grandfather who is an Argo fan, its all in good fun.

She knows the oskee wee wee too, you are not affended by wee wee are you?

I was absolutely thrilled to hear it again and your right, I got a little choked up as I joined in what was an a completely theraputic exercise!

Meanstreak,

I think the expressions " sucks" goes way back to the early days. When people said " go suck a lemon" or ie, " this sucks" ( someone, please correct me, if Im on wrong on this) but I think thats all that means.

In the Argos case. It just means Argos are lousy or stink. Not anything else.

I completely agree with you on any fan saying for ie, and Ar--- sw-----. That to me, is vulgar especially being around children. That is uncalled for.

But the express Ar--- s---!!! is just our fans putting down the other team. Nothing more.

I assumed Meanstreak was being sarcastic.
I don't think anyone, in this day and age is actually offended by that. Pretty commonplace language.
If he was offended by that word, then I doubt he'd be 'subjecting' his kids to the cheerleaders or ads on the Tigervision...or, really, that whole section of the city.

All for a laugh, I'd say.

Gotta throw my take on this out there again...

Argo fan /stadium announcer: Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrr - gooooooooooos (to the tune of a old-school foghorn blast)

Ticat fan: ****

That there's the REAL chant, in all of it's original glory. Beautiful for it's simplicity and brevity. Social by design in requiring an Argo fan or stadium announcer to properly kick it off.

All this modern day:

Ticat fan: Argos s***

bellowing is just a coursening of the best chant in CFL history. And look at the result: since the call and response original was transformed into a mostly solitary grunt in the eighties, it's the Cats have mostly ****ed.

Bring back the old.

The Chant lives on! :rockin:

I've always thought of it as a reference to "sucking wind", or to being so useless that your only function is to be using up air.

That's the beauty...you can read into it whatever you want!

haha, of course Meanstreak was being sarcastic!

If he wasn't, I hope he isn't taking his kids to Family rated movies. See this is another thing I never got about Bob admonishing the chant... he said it had something to do with creating a family atmosphere. But Family rated movies are allowed to have language such as "peter is a stupid jerk", "peter is a stupid idiot", "peter sucks", "this sucks". I'm 100% positive of this, I googled it one day out of curiosity and there are lists of words that have gotten into the different levels of films (PG-13, R, etc.). If anybody is curious, start googling for "motion picture rating system".

So really, I hope anyone that is actually offended isn't taking their kids to Family rated movies, let alone PG movies, they could be exposing their kids to worse. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it stems from a misunderstanding of the word. I think Bob and some other "old timers" don't get that the word in the context it is being used does not have a sexual connotation. Their is a famous t-shirt featuring the Argos and Alloutes that turned it into something with a sexual connotation, and if they want to ban those shirts from the stadium, hey maybe they should. But otherwise, tough cookies if you don't understand that "sucks" doesn't mean what you think it does.

Do we really want Ivor Wynne to be tamer than a PG or family movie?? This is Hamilton folks...

I can see the team not 'officially' endorsing it. Like, how it used to be up on that old scoreboard.

That does seem kinda bush league to me.
