TORONTO — The Canadian Football League has reinstated Toronto Argonauts’ quarterback Chad Kelly on a last chance agreement provided that he continues to meet a number of ongoing conditions.
Actually terrible news…the CFL should have banned Chad Kelly for at least a season…preferably for life…this was far from the first screw up by this individual…and Kelly is not even close to being an “outstanding player”…more like “despicable player”…I am disappointed by the Argos handling of this situation (including ending contract of victim)…especially in Pinball who I thought would take a much stronger position on this…same with MLSE…this is one issue that the Argos didn’t just bounce around on, they completely dropped the ball. Was an Argo fan from way back (to when their training camp was in Aurora at St. Andrews College)…no longer an Argo fan…and very disappointed in CFL too…
I would suggest that the CFL have a good long look at the multiple comments being made on FB. CFL fans are not happy. In fact they seem outraged. This decision is not good for OUR league. I would ask this question to the CFL board. Is integrity of OUR league more important than money? Because we know money is talking but integrity is walking.
My feelings exactly. The Argos have completely dropped the ball here. Thank goodness the League picked it up. Don’t look for me at any Argo games either.
It should be interesting how many fans agree here or not, and how many actually show versus reported attendance.
For the TV ratings, it is not hard to see those going up for these games, but by how much is the question as we go into the second half of the season for peak ratings anyway.
Obviously not only one who dislikes the actions of the Argos…as for the CFL picking the ball up I cannot agree…the CFL dropped the ball severely on this decision.
Glad we agree on the Argos. I think the League imposed a deservedly severe penalty. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that it did so. I was expecting the League to back the Argos old boys club.
Any road, hope this is the beginning of the end for Kelly.
Disappointed but not surprised. He deserved a full year suspension. League continues to show it is spineless. The same can be said about the Argos organization for welcoming this guy back this quick as though nothing happened and it was as if he had been injured. Shame on all parties involved…
Pinball blew it. You had a chance to stick up for the CFL women but instead you went with this despicable human being. When he steps on the field he will be booed till he gets out of the CFL and half the boo’s will be for PINBALL. The CFL management are EUNUCHS
Great stuff. Chad Kelly has learned his lessons and he has fulfilled the terms up to this point. I believe he has changed and is more aware of himself and he has done a lot of soul searching. The whole incident revolved around words exchanged and there was no physical contact, and in the end they took her word against his. I wonder who the real victim was in the end. Also, according to the “last chance” clause, a vindictive person could simply make an allegation against him,. and there would be no investigation - he would be out.
There is no bigger feminist than me, but the faux outrage about this is truly laughable. Kelly acted terribly and paid a very heavy price for it, shouldn’t that be the end of it? People forget that the complainant asked for NOTHING in terms of pain and suffering damages. Doesn’t that mean anything to people calling for Kelly’s scalp? It should. Deshaun Watson PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED more than a dozen athletic therapists and was given an 11-game suspension by the NFL. How about some perspective, people?
My outrage is not “faux”, DS, but I agree that the League dealt Kelly a serious and deserved penalty. I have no problem with the League’s decision here.
I love that Argos fans / Kelly worshippers are using the word “outrage”. I’m not outraged at all. I’m not even surprised. this is the Argos and Kelly we are talking about. The Argos organization doing dumb things and the CFL doing whatever it can to save face but bow to rich owners is not unexpected in the least.
