Good post. That reminded me of what George Carlin once said when comparing football to baseball:
“In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy’s defensive line.”
“In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! ‘I hope I’ll be safe at home!’”
So maybe baseball terminology would be inoffensive enough for Layton. But I can only imagine how he’d react after hearing that description of the object of football.
And I am with those who say that it does not make sense to make some connection between the ad and domestic violence. I thought the context of the ad made it clear that “hurting people” only had to do with what happens on the field.
The underlying lunacy of socialists is that you can always raise taxes and go further into debt in the pursuit of a government built Utopia. With flawed logic at their foundation they need support from anyone they can get including single cause/special interest groups as those basing their political philosophies on common sense reject them.
"Home is where the heart is. It is also a place we meet visiting football players on the field, exchange pleasantries, talk about our families, and then have a brisk match of football, followed by more pleasantries, and maybe a cool beverage with our opponents."
