Argos' new QB a seven-game mystery

Nick Arbuckle is in impressive company after his first seven Canadian Football League starts.

Jeff Garcia got his chance when Doug Flutie got injured in the 1995 season. In his second start (and first at McMahon) he threw for 546 yards and 6 touchdowns. It was all the sweeter because he did it against Edmonton.

You have him ranked second behind Chuck Ealey for the best 7 game start ever for a QB, but note that Garcia had the most yards passing, the most TDS and a tremendous 4 to 1 TD to interception ratio compared to that tremendous list of all-stars.

He was an all-star each of 5 years in the CFL, except for 1994, when he was stapled to the bench in his rookie year. He led the Stamps to the Grey Cup in 1998 before heading to the NFL.

Why is Jeff Garcia not in the CFL Hall of Fame?? Other players with short, spectacular careers are in there.

Nick Arbuckle is under a lot of pressure to be a saviour for the Argos with only seven starts and one comeback relief victory under his belt. He did gain a reputation for dedication and an unparalleled work ethic while in Calgary, so he’s got a chance.
