TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts announced on Friday that they have signed American quarterback Hunter Raquet.
Is this a sign that Kelly will not be with the team this year? BTW - has anyone heard of what is happening with the CFL’s investigation into Kelly?
It’s just another QB to push the other three. I think most teams have 4 or 5 coming to camp.
Why would Kelly not be with the team? the complaint against Kelly is not going to stop him from playing football even if a judge says she was wrongly let go.
I’m not sure if you are correct about the possible outcome of the Kelly investigation. The investigation is not only about wrongful dismissal - it is also about the why and what happened that created the situation. First, this is not the first time Kelly has been in serious trouble - his track record south of the border does him no good. Secondly, the Argo organization did not originally handle the complaint very well and apparently tried to cover it up - from having at least one coach attempting to sweep the complaint of sexual harassment under the rug to having the female coach dismissed! The question is - does the league want any of the perpetrators to remain? And how about the person who lost their job - what happens to her?
I believe that the league has a real problem - they can’t just allow the fines to be paid and carry on as if nothing happened. Their position on “diversity” within the league has been well promoted - the league will have to act and prove they mean what they say. To ignore Kelly’s role in this without the league standing by their position and acting against him is (in my opinion) very unlikely. Regardless of the outcome, I don’t see Kelly having a good time in T.O.( and why should he?) - and do any of the players still want him around under these circumstances? In normal cases, I would be taking the position of “innocent until proven guilty,” however, I don’t recall hearing anyone within the Argo organization saying this. No, the league too will have to act and in my opinion, Kelly will have to go.
BTW mikem - thanks for responding to my question.
Already a very long thread on the Kelly thing so I don’t want to get into it. But I believe they brought in the other QB to push Kelly and the backup.
They have to carry on and operate the team, they can’t be putting things on hold until after the review and judgement, that could be well into the season.
Thanks once again mikem - I agree that bringing in this new QB had more to it than what meets the eye. You talk about " a very long thread" on this topic already existing - where and how does a person access it? I have been looking for articles on this site about the Kelly/Argo situation and haven’t seen any. I would appreciate advice on how to use this site and to access the topic you are referring to. Are you a moderator?
I agree with you - this topic deserves to be on the main forum. This is an important challenge to the CFL’s integrity and i hope it is dealt with sensitively and properly. The site thread that was mentioned earlier is now out of date and goes back a month or more.
Thanks for you response.
The topic is and has always been on the main forum. CFL talk is the most popular and most used category in the forum. If anything an argument could be made that the topic is better suited for The Lounge, but it remains on the main forum.
It is also not out of date. It is only six weeks old and every day there are posts in the thread. Probably the most active and posted in topic over the last 6 weeks so there is no reason to delete the topic.
I am assuming that you haven’t followed the situation. There was a flurry of activity at the outset but now there are presumably negotiations going on between the parties and an investigation in progress. The topic is far from dead or outdated. Feel free to familiarize yourself with the issues by reading the thread.
Jon - thank you for your input. However, I only agreed with another about this topic not being on the main forum - I didn’t invent the comment. Perhaps you could direct the others as to where we can find this main forum article. The reason that I am writing on this site about this topic is to find out more about it - so far without success. I was also hoping that a more recent article had been posted. If you are one of the moderators, you need to understand that for many, an article written 6 weeks ago is ancient history and BTW no one suggested deleting the topic - feel free to think otherwise
The thread was linked for you by Porky so you can find it by clicking on the link.
I do not know how you have set up your forum access but normally the most recent posts would show up at the top of your board rather than going by when a thread was initially posted chronologically. I had previously let you know how to set up your board with your preferences so you can refer to that or not as you wish. This thread should actually appear at or near the top of CFL Talk and your board pretty much daily so if it doesn’t your settings have been changed somehow. Up to you.
Porky already did that.
But, for those with short attention spans, here it is again:
There’s over 1200 posts in that thread, the latest being but two days ago (and not 6 weeks).
At the time when I initially responded to this article (re: Hunter Raquet), I asked a basic question that started quite a nice conversation between myself and those who responded. Now, somehow this conversation has morphed into something entirely off topic - about the article first posted 6 weeks ago and how relevant it still is. Frankly, that post is outdated - thus the reason for me asking my question about anyone hearing anything new about the Kell/Argo legal problems? Since no one can add new information - let’s carry on, unt the next time. To those who wanted to discuss the matter - thanks!
It’s of course up to you, but you appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the forum works and not for the first time. Myself and others tried to help you by pointing out a very active thread and that it was not even close to outdated. That is all.
Jon - thanks for your comment, but you have a basic misunderstanding. I am well aware of the previous article about Kelly/Argos having legal problem - after all it is at least 6 weeks old. You need to know that neither I nor others have any interest in going through 1200 posts that do not advance the discussion with new information. I am not interested in 1200 opinions - afew yes, 1200 NO! I was asking about new info regarding the Kelly/Argo law suite - there doesn’t appear to be any. I don’t require your help nor that of the others you talk about - at least not to explain what has become obvious - there just ain’t no new info about the Kelly lawsuit. Sometimes a straight response is best.
No hard news lately you are correct.
If and when some hard news does come out, you will be far more likely to read others’ thoughts about it in a thread entitled “Chad Kelly and the Argonauts in legal trouble” than you will here in a thread that is supposed to be about “Argos ink quarterback Hunter Raquet”.
Madjack - thanks, I appreciate that someone is reading and listening.
