Nope Shawn failed the cfl
Gambling is one of those things that you really can’t come back from as an athlete. Its kinda like a cook dropping something on the floor and being caught serving it. Is a DUI worse than a cook that does this? I’d say so but I don’t care if someone who had a DUI served me food, a cook that is known to serve floor meals? yeah I think i’ll go somewhere else. Much is the same with CFL players with other issues. CFL can forgive a dude who gets caught drinking and driving once but gambling is a whole different can of worms.
The foundation of sport is rooted in the idea that both teams are trying to win. When you throw in dudes gambling on games you jeopardize that foundation and when you do that you risk the league as a whole. Morally speaking I’d say gambling on yourself in a sports game is a lesser evil than drinking and driving but its much more risky to have the gambler in the league than the guy drinking and driving.
so, does this mean that every game Lemon played in this year becomes a forfeit??
Hold up! hold your horse’s, Randy along with your league cohorts. Shawn Lemon has grounds to take this issue the legal route where the CFL would be scrutinized heavily with a fine tooth comb for their decisions past and present. This CFL.CA article seems to indicate he bet on more than one game as it reads above, what’s the truth? The CFL had no such rules or regulations on gambling or the consequences in place during this so called infraction in wtiting to their league bylaws of that time frame, maybe they do now but that’s after the fact to the timeline of this allegation. Mr. Lemon needs to take the league to task as his livelihood is on the line. A first time offense by a exemplary CFL player during his long storied career, everyone makes mistakes or misjudgment, what’s the truthful story behind the bruhah? This league is digging themselves a deep hole making up rules on the fly (nothing new) for their convenience and influencing other’s in the background while making a very bad Image of a so called Professional Sports League. Mr. Lemon a first time CFL player infraction has served his suspension and needs to be reinstated. There’s been others throughout CFL history who have done far worse (Toronto the past few years comes to mind). Question, who is the outside arbitrator to this decision?
You really should read up on what already has been done on this matter, for your new post would have been timely last spring.
Shawn Lemon has already had too many chances via the process in place, and well, it did not work out and hardly anything went well for Lemon along the lines as you are advocating.
In your defence, there’s been much buried that is now in locked threads, but anyway, the ship you are looking to board has long since sailed and Lemon is GONE GONE GONE.
I already spoke to that point in another thread so I’ll just repeat it:
What he did impugns the integrity of the game. It matters not how long ago was the betting; it matters not how much he bet in dollars; in every professional sport of which I am aware, betting on games in the league in which you play is punishable by a lifetime suspension; ask Pete Rose, Don Gallinger, and the Black Sox.
To say the CFL had no defined policy in place is a cop-out. Any moron (and I don’t believe Shawn Lemon to be a moron) in a professional sports league would know that betting on games in the league in which he is playing is a major no-no, without having to be spoon-fed some written directive.
That’s
It doesn’t matter if people agree with the ruling or not. It’s binding. That would indicate that there’s no appeal process in my mind, although I’m not a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination. It’s done so people should move on.
There is always the possibility of appeal of what is a civil/contractual matter to a court of law. However, it would almost certainly require grounds based upon some fundamental flaw in the process or improper behaviour of the arbitrator. A high threshold before to achieve in actual getting an appeal allowed.

The result was expected but took longer than expected.
Yyyoooouuurrrr’eee outa here!!
Enjoy retirement
[/quote]Ok, let's be serious about Shawn Lemon. He's done! Like Turkey on Thanksgiving. MG you didn't mention Pension but several other "Clowns" did. STOP! Shawn 's pension should never be questioned. This borders on the insane. How low can you stoop?Uh, not quite, here’s an answer posted above, but maybe nothing will come out of this anyway.
As for stooping lower, maybe ask Shawn Lemon for any more of his excuses about that after he knowingly and willingly bet on his own league, team, and games.
Nothing to see here
Move along
And since the arbitrator was a judge from the Ontario court system, what do you think their chances are?
0 or less than 0?
That is correct. The arbitrator would have to have completely misapprehended his job and the evidence for a court to even consider an appeal. And that didn’t occur. The process used is collectively bargained and therefore pretty much unassailable. Not liking the decision is not a valid ground of appeal.
Dear MadJack,
You must remember, just because the cfl puts a salary on a paper for player to sign as to his services rendered doesn’t make this league a Professional Sports entity.
Also important to note, it is an “indefinite suspension” still. I would suspect he may be reinstated like the NFL player recently was, but at the leagues discretion and likely with a “last chance” agreement of some sort.
Here you go @Bom1980
Cry with Lemon or move on.
When life gives you a Lemon you make lemonade and then bet on it hopefully making you a buck or two .
lemonade, yes…
I have never bet on any sport in my life. But I say BOO Randy on this one. Let the 40 year old Shawn Lemon finish out the year.
