I agree with you that trash talk about the NFL or fans of the NFL is annoying. In general, trashing people for having different tastes in sports is a waste of time.
You’re kidding yourself, though, if you think there isn’t a lot of trash talk about the CFL from south of the border. There’s probably less of it, because the CFL doesn’t pose any sort of threat to the NFL. There are no cities in the US with repeated calls to ditch their NFL teams in hopes of landing a CFL franchise, and generally what happens in Canada is irrelevant to Americans. But I’ve read a lot of things like “So-and-so should go to the CFL” or “Such-and-such team should play in the CFL” as a way of criticising players or teams. It’s not a direct insult, but it’s most certaintly not meant as a compliment. “CFL is not real football” is common. People who are here from the US will say things like “I don’t understand why Canadians are into such crappy football”. There was a lot of complaining from NFL Network subscribers when they decided to start showing CFL games. If the CFL gets brought up on a news website in the US, there’s a pretty good chance someone is going to say something snarky about the it in the comment section. Perhaps you don’t hear a lot of trash, but it’s definitely there, and I expect you would hear it if you tried to expose your American friends to the game. Bring up the CFL on an NFL forum, and see how long it takes for someone to trash it.
This isn’t to say there aren’t Americans who like the Canadian game. Not everyone was critical when the NFL network started showing CFL games, and it’s not hard to find personal accounts of people who have come up here to see games live and enjoyed themselves.
Being friendly on average doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be people who are jerks. It also doesn’t mean that we are doormats to another country’s institutions.

…anyways, yes 3rd down football is far superior to 4 down football, in my opinion. And yes I will be watching the superbowl on Sunday. No, I don’t really care who wins, but I predict the Giants will win.
