Any word on ticket sales for this week?

I'd imagine some of it might've been hurt with speculation on whether or not there was gonna be a game, or whatever was happening with the strike. I just happened to get tickets so I was curious if there's any talk on how many are there. Oh how many Season Ticket holders do we have this year?

I was at the EDM/lions game and shocked that they could only draw just under 30k. Come on Vancouver you can do better then that.

I was there too Oilerrocker and I was also surprised. I was hoping for between 35,000 and 40,000 especially given the importance of the game. But the good thing is that the almost 30,000 that were at the game made as much noise as though there were 50,000. It looks like everyone had a great time. We sure did!

Do you think this was due to the fact of the simultaneous Canucks game, Halloween night or a combination of both?

There was also a Giants game on at 7pm in Prince George and there was a UFC on top of the Canucks and Halloween celebrations.

Why are you shocked? 30K is the high end of attendance for most if not all CFL games (Edmonton and to a certain extent Calgary excluded). We were 251 shy of that.

Really, with a season ticket base of 18K, playing a home game on Halloween weekend (when there were hundreds of parties around town) and the Canucks playing Ovechkin and the Capitals at the exact same time across the street, anyone who thought we’d draw 40K is delusional. Now, if they don’t draw over 30K against Montreal (which they should) with first place on the line then yes, THAT would be disappointing!

Honestly, with the price of tickets which seems to keep going up, the advent of high def television, and lack of parking in and around the stadium, folks had better start to temper their expectations on attendance (or the Lions front office had better starting coming up with creative ways of getting butts in the seats).

I agree with the dude above! Interesting I was at a dinner party that night with about 40 people age ranging from teens to 60. We decided what to vote to see which game to put on Canucks or the Lions. Almost everyone under say 35 voted for the Canucks. A few of the old timers like myself voted for the Lions. Seems like Lions have lost several generations or a few decades at least of true fans. I agree with the above CFL and Lions have to do better with marketing. Most importantly they have to do better with the non football related entertainment at BC Place. Start with the food! Well known by everybody that the food sucks! I rarely hear the same complaints about Canucks or the Giants. When spouses, girlfriends and kids are not entertained …good luck in getting them to return!

This was also Minor football night, First place on the line, and a Sat game. If the Lions can’t draw more then that when their winning I can’t imagine what it will be like when the go through a rebuild.
In some ways the Canucks are killing the sports scene in Vancouver.

Really, I think considering what was going on and that was most people's night to party that the crowd was quite impressive. Less was known of the Lions when they reached 50,000. If we only draw 30,000 next week against Montreal then by all means i'll be right with you on saying it's disappointing.

The other thing is that we have a season ticket cap that was in place since Empire Field. We are relying on walkup crowds to push us from 18,500 i think someone mentioned, which was the cap, up to 30,000 or more is quite impressive. I expect next season to have much better crowds.

We had a bit of a rebuilding year in 2009 but were continously right around 30,000.

A Western Final here should get its usual 50,000+. Probably sellout at that point given the smaller capacity of 54,500. One of the games I went to in 2004 I think was 55,000 so that's already over capacity.

I Was At A Movie Wrap Party Of Around 75 People And It Was The LIONS Game "Hands Down" That MOST People Wanted To Watch In The Ballroom! A Few American Actors Really ENJOYED Seeing Their FIRST CFL Game!

What did the Americans think of the Canadian rules? Was it easy for them to follow?

Actually Tyrone, I’m disappointed to hear that. We keep hearing the same garbage about the Nfl is a better product and blah, blah blah, and after watching a 6-3 game is what you call a better product is a joke.
What can you do with the food? Not too many people can screw up a hot dog, hamburger,or fries can they!! People may not complain about the food at a Canucks game but they have no problems complaining about the price of it.

THeir Hot dogs are good at BC Place. I didn't try anything else tho. Vancouver Canadians have really crappy hamburgers btw. Great hot dogs tho!

The Giants are not a fair comparison because they're owned by the Legendary White Spot, i mean whose gonna top White Spot? Unless GM Place sells White Spot i'd say the Giants burgers are probably better than the Canucks even.

It's too bad Pavco couldn't make a deal for the PNE's food! The food at Empire was awesome! PNE showed everybody they know how to feed people at a sporting event better than anybody in town. Better than the Canucks even.

Do you guys think the Lions will sell out a home EDSF or EF game?

I'd love to see BC Place packed for said playoff games. The sheer exuberance of a full stadium will be electrifying. :rockin:

Well i know we’ve surpassed 50,000 a few times in the western final. It’s not every year you get a western final.

One game I was at against Saskatchewan drew 55,000+ that’s more than the current setup even holds, so personally I think with the new stadium that we should sell it out. However, when we had the Grey Cup last time we also had the West Final which only 35,000 showed up for. Had the other people showed up (i was living outside of Vancouver at the time) maybe we would’ve been able to host the game and win the Grey Cup that year.

I really hope we can draw more than 35,000 tonight even, but especially for any Playoff game we end up with after being 0-5.

Probably not the Eastern Division Semi-Final or Eastern Final. I suspect those games will be played in Montreal and Winnipeg :stuck_out_tongue:.

But if you mean the Western Semi or Final, than absolutely. The place will be full. Vancouver isn’t a great sports town, but they’ll support it it’s the thing to do. Grey Cup will also be a success.

I'm surprised there were only 35,454 in attendance last night for a crucial game that meant 1st and a bye in the division for both teams.

I would have guessed in the neighborhood of close to 45,000

oh well, hope they sell out the EF and provide the Leos with added motivation to get to the GC.

People would rather play useless apps on their over priced iphones and are too lazy to goto anything these days? Too many distractions in todays world, or people in Van pay soo much for everything else they don’t have anything left?

I can’t explain it otherwise. Was the local black out lifted?

I'm starting to think this has more and more to do with the lack of season ticket holders this year. We basically had 20,000 walkup there.

I think our crowds will be better next year. It doesn't make sense with such a nice stadium. Be interesting to see the turnout for the West Final.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the ST holder numbers get even lower next year. The renewals were sent out last month with, big shock here, yet another price increase. Plus, after a short grace period, there will eventually be no financial advantage from being a ST holder and a walk up.

I’m a huge Lions fan and will continue to go but renewing ST isn’t a slam dunk decision like it once was. Up until 2-3 years ago, going to a Lions game was extremely affordable. Now it’s creeping into cheap Canuck ticket prices for the good seats at BC Place and I know many people can’t afford that. Even the cheap seats are not so cheap anymore. I love how popular the CFL has become again but I hope they don’t price their loyal die hard fans out of the mix because those fat headed suits and corporate wannabees don’t make regular appearances at the Lions games like they do for the arena next door.
