another helmet to helmet hit on QB?

I don't intend this topic to go on for too long. I was only able to watch this game in bits and pieces, but I thought I saw another fairly hard hitting helmet on helmet hit from BC on the Bomber QB. Did I see right or not? I haven't had a chance to see any game summary or Sports Centre wrap up but I just wanted to know right away.

On a secondary note, did Abdullah get fined?

The only hit ive seen so far that was illegal was Jurineack's hit on Crouch. All of the other hits were OK, those were hard nosed football hits. Seems to be a bit of inconsistency on the officials' part, but RW05 has mentioned that the rule needs to be changed, and I agree with him there.

According to the precedent set by the league whoever it was tonight, as well as Abdullah, should be fined or suspended. This is of course absolutely ridiculous, but so were the initial fines and suspensions on Saskatchewan players. Very bush IMO.

Thanks sambo you are right change the rule so this silly situations stop. It seems now that everyone is on a hunt for the helmet to helmet hits. I think most agree the rule needs to be modified!

As the rule stands, maybe Paul McCallum should have been fined last week for his helmet to helmet hit..... even though he ended up with a mild concussion.

Joking aside, I know McCallum is not a QB.
I'm sure that the rule will be reviewed in the off-season, but it sure would be nice if it was called and enforced consistantly until then.

I admit that I am looking for helmet to helmet hits after the whole Schultz incident. I wish head office would just end the agony, reverse the fine, and let these guys play football.

Looked like one tonight on Pearce, courtesy of one of the Bombers.

…or you could just get over it already and move on with the season…

If it was a referee 'on the spot' decision, I would say yes to moving on, but it wasn't. The powers that be at Head Office reviewed the play and thoughtfully determined a $1000 fine on Schultz. If they are goint to spend that kind of time to hand out that fine, then they should be doing that for these other helmet to helmet hits.

Interesting thing is I never really noticed helmet to helmet contact on the quarterback until hearing of the Schultz fine. Since then, I have seen at least three. My guess is they have always been there. If the sport is dirty and needs to be cleaned up, fine more than Schultz. If these hits are not dirty, reverse the fine on schultz.

I have to confess I don’t know the exact wording of the rule, but if Jurineack’s hit was truly illegal, you need to watch TSN’s highlights (on their website) of the Lions/Bomber game last night. Warner had a vicious helmet hit to the chin, and Tom Canada had another - although not so vicious. But Warner’s was far worse than Jurineack’s.

I don't like the inconsistent calling. If that hit last night wasn't objectionable, then give Duane Butler his $1000 back.

Warner's was vicious, but Canada's was far more dangerous. Warner's was a lot like the Butler hit on Quinn. He didn't lead with the crown of his helmet, but on the follow through he caught an awful lot of chin. The hit by Canada on the other hand, was clearly a spear, and should lead to some disciplinary action by the league. If you catch a replay of that one, watch what Warner does after the Canada hit. He propels himself helmet first into Pierce like a missile. It is the perfect example of a spear. He's lucky he didn't break his own neck.

The fact that Wynn left the stadium in an ambulance may have triggered the look see by the league. Thus they felt a only a fine was required. It is amazing how many helmet to helmet hits there are! But spearing and hitting the QB in the head is not a good thing to do. No one wants their QB down from this type of hit. It is a contact sport!

Pierce got nailed hard...but bounced back to his feet afterwards...with a cut on his chin from the hit.

Like many other rulings, this one is inconsistent as hell, and that makes for a great deal of annoyances. But at least the Leos don't bitch about it, unlike other teams have in the past.

You're right Buck stood in there! But the ruling must be changed. Under the rules this guy should be in the same boat as Schultz not that I want to see it!

Curious, what rule are we talking about here, and how would you retune it RW2005.

are you basically saying that there shouldn't be any contact with helmets?

Oops, I see I spelled Pierce's name wrong earlier (thought so). You hit the nail on the head hwgill. Our guys bounce right back up and don't do the soccer drama. Pierce took one heck of a hit there.

I think I'd rather prefer the rule as it is now, which is no late hits on the QB period, but if they can't help it, then yeah, maybe it should be changed.
