I doubt very much if Trestman would return to the NFL as an Assistant, but the article is interesting in mentioning how his last 49er experience ended.
As Trestman himself is fond of saying, it`s a great game, but a lousy business.

Ce n'est qu'une autre rumeur, et ce n'est pas la dernière.
Si on se fie au discours qu'il a fait dans la chambre des joueurs après la victoire de la Coupe Grey (j'ai dû l'écouter 6 fois pour comprendre), il revient. Il disait à ses de garder à l'esprit ce qu'ils sont en train de bien réaliser au sein de cette équipe avant de choisir leur prochaine voie. Il serait mal avisé de se discréditer lui-même en faisant autrement. Ça le suivrait partout où il passerait. S'il reste, il fait ce qu'il dit aux autres de faire, et ça lui donne autant plus de crédibilité.
Par ailleurs, Popp a mentionné qu'il n'avait pas de clause dans le contrat de Trestman qui lui permettait unilatéralement de sonder d'autres horizons. Alors je crois qu'on n'a pas à prêter trop d'attention à ces rumeurs.

LeStaf, I agree that I dont see Trestman leaving so quickly, and Ill go so far as to say he might be here beyond 2012 as well.
The NFL head coaching jobs generally go to college flavour-of-the-months (Pete Carroll, Jim Harbough) or hot co-ordinators (Ron Rivera, Pat Shurmur).
I naively thought that Trestman would be seriously considered for the Carolina job that went to Rivera, but he was not even considered. There was only later talk about consideration for offensive co-ordinator.
By 2012, Trestman, unfortunately for him, might simply be too far removed from the NFL radar.

Nobody actually refutes the very legitimate reason for Trestman’s move in that situation: that the team had no established running game and he needed Rice closer to the LOS.
Why would Trestman go back to that nonsense?
Ironically Trestman uses Jerry Rice`s photo and testimonial as the homepage on his website coachmarctrestman.com.
So perhaps they settled any differences they had.
