An update from Ticats practice

Day one of Ticats practice and here's what's happening:

• as per usual, there are a few players taking what appear to be maintenance days, including OL Joel Figueroa, LB Taylor Reed and DBs Rico Murray and Courtney Stephen. I'll be asking coach Kent Austin about it but I think they should all be ready for Saturday's critical match up versus the Alouettes.

• receiver Andy Fantuz brought his helmet today and did a fair amount of work on the sidelines but still no team work. My guess is we won't know about Fantuz's status until later in the week.

• Brandon Banks has been named CFL player of the week, largely on the strength of his 103 kickoff return for a touchdown vs. Ottawa.

• word out of Toronto is that quarterback Ricky Ray isn't at practice today after suffering a concussion vs. Montreal. That's another indication that Trevor Harris will start Friday vs. the Redblacks.

For Ottawa, head coach Rick Campbell said in a radio interview today that Dan O'Brien would play the majority of the game at QB.

That game has playoff implications for Hamilton: a loss by Toronto puts the Ticats into the playoffs.

That's "playing to lose." I'm against it. They should be playing to WIN and end the season on a high note.

I'm not so sure of that, I mean both QB's posted 2 ints last week with comparable completions percentage and yardage. The only difference based on those stats are is one QB has already peaked, the other has yet to get a chance to prove himself.

Winnipeg beat Calgary last game

Tend to agree with Hammer on this one.

Burris had 8 opportunities to win one on the road...
