TORONTO — Last week, we (perhaps foolishly) talked about how the Montreal Alouettes had been able to sit back and watch the other eight teams in the league bob up and down in the seas of parity.
Interesting that 3DownNation has BC in second and CFL.ca has the Lions at 5, below the Elks and Bombers! Strange days, indeed. And sportswriters are still opining whether Rourke or VA will be BC’s QB in the next games. I mean, really, there is no contest. One was lagging, rescued from ineffective play for his last 3 games by injury, and one surging, reinvigorating a sinking team into a newly fired-up crew that should go to the Grey Cup. Prescience is absent today in much of our sports community (except for perhaps Jamie Nye who seems to have a bead on predictions).
They are still question about who bc starter is. Maybe after his first two games ig but after that game in ottawa Rourke has been nothing short of amazing. Yeah he has a lot of int but that als games those int were his receivers having bricks for hands.
Kudos to the staff for concentrating on this year’s results AND most recent performances. I like the rankings this week & IMO are fair. Can’t disagree with the top 3. In the past the Elks might have been still trying to crawl out of the cellar because of their start. But, with the Bombers, these are the hottest 2 teams right now & the 5 win Elks have beaten their opponents in their 5 wins by an average of 17.8 pts/game (194 PF 105 PA). We get to see the Bombers go head to head twice in the next 2 weeks which will be must see viewing.
Hamilton? A 3 win team rated 6th. I like it. They could have beaten the Bombers in Wpg & beat the Argos. Can anyone dispute they aren’t playing better than the 3 below them?
Good job. Refreshing to see what IMO is better than simply regurgitating the standings as they are.
Yup. And the Elks have enough hands to play strategy wise and a stonking run game.
Everyone says Oh - look at the Bombers secondary - yeah they are great. But their run stop defence isn’t so great.
Edmonton’s O-Line has been cited twice by PFF for their work in aiding their 117 yards a game running average. And don’t forget what they did to the leagues best run stop defence in Regina, shredding them for 276 yards on the ground.
…or that they are leading the turnover ratio, and have the most interceptions. And that a lot of those came from harassing hurrying and bumping QB’s while they are throwing.
Well we are past the Labor day games and now the power ranking should be way more accurate. For the top 5, I figure they are pretty much as they should be , although maybe a bit off with BC and Edmonton. BC beat the top team , while Edmonton beat the bottom team. That is the difference. But seeing Hamilton jump 2 levels when they were on a bye is ridiculous. Hamilton only beat Toronto (6th rank) for their first win in a long time and by only 2 points. OK both Toronto and Regina lost their games but again Toronto lost to 2nd rank while Regina to 3rd rank. Both deserve a drop by 1 level from last week. Toronto didn’t deserve a 2 level drop.
Our linebacking corps has been obliterated… Adam Bighill, Kyrie Wilson, Brian Cole, and newcomer Bailey Feltmate are ALL on the Six-Game IR. We’ve got good ol’ reliable Canadian Shane Gauthier trying his best to hold the fort with two rookies on either side of him.
Then there’s our once feared defensive line that’s now barely able to stop old ladies in their tracks because it’s missing big bodied Defensive Tackles Cameron Lawson and Miles Fox.
If any team wants to run on us right now they can certainly do it. I think that’s why we’re only rushing three linemen of late. We can’t stop the run so I THINK what our new DC Jordan Younger has decided to do is put zero pressure on opposing QB’s in order to trick them into believing that the pass is the way to go on every play.
Those who’ve fallen into this trap so far have been bashing their heads against the least compromised part of our defense… which just happens to be the best pass protection unit in the league.
Seems odd to me that BC has beaten the top two teams in the East the last couple of weeks and yet they are 5th and meanwhile those two teams in the East are 1 and 2. Kind of defies logic, no?
Likely because of win streaks, and season records of the teams above them. Winnipeg with 7 straight, and Elks with 5 of the last 6 and both hold the playoff tiebreaker with BC.
