Good luck with your work, LeStaf. I too will likely not be around very much in the coming weeks, for personal reasons. But I can't wait for us to kick off the 2011 season. I am looking forward to watching the Als-Lions game, with a cold beer in my hand.
there's a poster who claims to not be a fan but a observer with a critic's eye(?)!! whatever!! but it does remind me of the poor S.O.B. who puts his last 2 dollars on a horse at the racetrack and then goes to the rail to watch his 2 dollars run!! worrying the whole time as his horse runs!! never realizing all his worrying doesn't make his 2 dollars run any faster!!
Regardless of the song
The Words are Party Line
Beaten to the drum of throng
It may be wrong
But perfectly in time
It would be nice for once
To have my arguments discussed
Point by point
Instead of blanket statements
Condemnations and accusations
This is not debate
But attack
If my contentions about the foolishness in not re-signing Cobourne offend
Then propose a counter argument
Constantly attacking my character or devotion to the team
Are a waste of time
I attempt to make cogent and rational arguments to support my point of view
But despair at this infantile and persistent reactionary silliness
It’s not like I’m ever going to stop being critical
So why not try approaching things on that level?
Try some critical thinking for a change
By George…I believe you’ve got it
I am a supporter of the Alouettes players
You know…those talented and courageous people that risk life and limb every week for our entertainment?
Needless to say…the more talented and courageous the better!
Unlike so many here…who appear to be “fans” of the Alouettes management.
Most of whom have never pounded a pigskin in anger
I couldn’t agree more…
Glad you cleared that up!!!
How do you know who's played, coach or scouted ball in here ? You talk about making blanket statements
I understand being a fan of the guys who play, but for me football is a team sport, that's what make this sport so unique but I choose to focus on the players we have, the ones that want to be here.
Owens has a big family and he could not deal with a returner's pay (around 70.000) I respect that, the problem is that is all we could offer him last year. had he took it in stride, he probably would have taken Cahoon's spot this year and made his 120k... We couldn't cut Watkins, Cahoon, Green or Richardson. He was the fifth import receiver and we tried to fit him on the roster. I am certain we did our best to keep him. In the end he told the Als he was going home and hide in a hotel room in Toronto till Barker (him again) found a way to trade for him.
In regards to being fans of management. I very much enjoy the aspects of roster building and coaching, it is a big part of the game of football. Considering ration, SMS and the NFL factor, the CFL is a huge challenge and understanding these aspects help understand why who is on the field and who may not be.
I have no problem talking ball with you as long as you take your own advice
EXCUSE ME THIS IS A SPORT NOT A DEBATING SOCIETY!!! you want to debate point by point then you start with why all your predictions that you drove everybody crazy with last season concerning #5 and #13 and finally how stupid popp/trestman/smith were!! but not you as you were far to busy being logical and was the only one that saw the WHOLE PICTURE!! finally you stated last season that the alouettes would never win another GC if #13 remained as their starting QB!! now explain to us all point by point how your logic failed you as A.C. and the alouettes went on to win another title?
No…this is a forum for discussing the various aspects of a sport
Hence: a debate
Not everyone was driven crazy…and the fact is that when I started promoting the idea that McPherson should get more playing time…most here had little or low opinion of his talents. It’s a credit to HIM that he changed those opinions over the course of the last two seasons.
I NEVER stated the Alouettes could not win another Cup with Calvillo at the helm…but if you consider that I started my “promotion” of the idea of giving McPherson more downs prior to the Alouettes current GC 2-peat…and that Calvillo had (at the time) an appallingly bad Grey Cup record…I was more than justified in being down on AC.
I have since given AC all the props he deserves for his recent accomplishments…and am pleased as punch that he’s worked his way through whatever was responsible for the failures of the past.
That being said…the historic negligence of backups in the Calvillo “era” will have to abate at some point…and I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping the Alouettes make some further effort to find playing time for their talented second. Anything less would continue an apparent negligence and in my opinion would be short-sighted and un-mindful of the future.
okay agree #5 does need to have more playing time!! no your incorrect you want it to be a debating society and logical discussion point by point!! you just finished posting that!! "your an observer and critic not a fan" it's football!! emotional, physical and quick decision making!! a forum to agree or disagree either emotionally or logically(put in just for you)!! and tell me when/what canadien fan has ever been able to discuss anything logically without emotion? right never!! and sorry to continue to disagree with you still on this point!! you did state last season that #5 needed more playing time and was a better QB then A.C. due to his ability to move in the pocket and gain yards by running instead of getting sacked like #13!! plus the als were going to lose mcpherson to free agency and they needed to sign him to a long term contract with a hefty raise before toronto stole him from us!! and I kept saying to you why the rush!! "we" don't even know if #13's replacement is even in montreal per trestman!! remember now? as yes you did make the statement about the als never winning another GC with #13 as their QB!! whether you remember it or not I do!!! so don't try cleaning it up!! you said it so own it like a good little fellow you are!! cheers!!
to bad ahman green was a bust before TC started since he was very well suited to the 1 back offence with the GB packers and was able to provide blocking for some old white guy who refused to retire on top as opposed to being broken down and playing have football will travel to NY and minnesota!! in what's a surprising move jerry porter has said he hopes to return to the alouettes for next season post his a/tendon surgery!! good for him!!
That being said...the historic negligence of backups in the Calvillo "era" will have to abate at some point....and I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping the Alouettes make some further effort to find playing time for their talented second.
correct!! would be nice to see AC out earlier in games and mcpherson in earlier then in the past but only if the als are ahead as you stated very well!!
