Guiding the Als pass pass game will be Caleb Evans who makes his second straight start in place of Cody Fajardo who continues to progress from a shoulder injury.
He looked like a whole different guy last week than he did last year in Ottawa. Lets see if it continues tonight.
Most people don’t see it but 2 QB’s who can start is a pretty good thing if you are the Al’s.
Mostly because they can rest up Fajardo for Winnipeg next week.
How did you know? He’s very clever. I’d explain but I’d be going off topic.
However, I will say this. He loves to see the “pooch” kick when he’s watching the game with me. He goes crazy!
Good stuff. I thought you were out until tomorrow. You missed a pretty boring game yesterday that at least had a close finish. Not much happened other than Paredes proved he’s not the best kicker in the league.
I love Dustin Crum’s toughness but he has velcro on his throwing hand and does not release quick enough. I am doubling down and still making the claim that Dru Brown is the best back up in the CFL.
Agree completely that the game was kind of a dud but I am going to come to the defense of Rene Parades. Shawn Whyte is the best kicker in the league but Rene did hit 6 FGs in brutal conditions. People do not realize how difficult kicking a FG truly is. There are so many factors. Rene has made a lot of big kicks in his career. In my opinion, the play calling and Jake Maier did not do him any favors.
I’ve had this discussion with betweenthegoalposts recently. No biggie but this one I have thought about a lot more than just winging out some back up names last night in response to your question.
I consider Castillo to be the best placekicker in the league largely because he is unflappable in the clutch. He went 5 for 5 in the 2021 Grey Cup in conditions similar or worse to last night, calmly kicking a 48 yarder in a gale that he made look effortless. He kicked a 40 something yarder with ease last night in the 4th quarter as well if I’m
not mistaken (going by memory). Calgary lost the 2021 semi final to Saskatchewan when Paredes missed a kick and Lauther didn’t.
I rate Paredes third behind Sean Whyte. And to be clear I have no doubt Paredes will make the hall of fame and probably have the best career statistics of the three and he is a very good kicker but I’m not basing my opinion on statistics or longetivity.
If I was told that I could pick any CFL kicker to kick a 50 yarder in a cross wind with my life on the line I would pick Castillo without hesitation. That is why I consider him the best kicker playing today.
Almost forgot but I didn’t mean to imply that Paredes was solely responsible for Calgary’s loss as I am sure there is plenty of blame to go around (looking at you Maier). But the fact remains that if he had made one more field goal they would have won.
