Als sign Austin Collie

Looks like we might have found our NI receiver. Good Work Jim Popp, what an off season he's having.

Yes,he was born in Canada, but,for the CFL is he considered a Nat/NI player? I am not sure, although I hope so. Would be great.

Richard

Rules changed with the last CBA. Born in Canada= Canadian Citizen= National status.

He’s had Concussions a few years ago and a rebuilt patelar tendon but he’s well healed in great shape. He has a legitimate shot at making the roster.

He was born in Hamilton, that makes him a “Natural born Canadian Citizen” making the other clauses immaterial. His younger brother for example who just transfered to Hawai may be born in the US and an American citizen and not qualify as a National.

This rule also applies to Christian Covington who is expected to be drafted in the NFL this spring.

So to simplify things the league cleaned up their player status. You can either be a National

1- Your born in Canada or became a Canadian Citizen before signing your first contract : Austin Collie…

2- You already have NI status in the CFL before the new CBA; Josh Bartel

3- You are not born in Canada but can prove that you grew up at least in part in Canada: Ben Cahoon

The following Players shall be classified as National Players (formerly non-import):
(a) Canadian citizens at the time of signing of the Player’s first contract;
(b) A Player classified as a non-import prior to May 31st, 2014; OR
(c) A Player who was physically resident in Canada for an aggregate period of five (5) years prior to attaining the age of eighteen (18) years.

A Player is classified as an International Player (formerly import) if the Player is one other than one referred to in the definition of a National Player (formerly non-import).

Les questions sont donc :

Jebus LeStaf !

He's a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN. When is moma gave birth to him in Hamilton it came with the deal. I assume any pro contract he would have signed would have been after his birth.

It is a), b) or c).... In English or French.

Wow, this guy is 29, a walking concussion coming off a ruptured patella tendon, and we’re excited? I guess it shows how far expectations have fallen for the franchise.

Hey, you know what we could do one of these days? Draft a good national receiver instead of picking up scraps from the scrapheap. Does Popp even know how to do anything except sign NFL rejects anymore?

:thdn: :thdn:

You are wrong on two counts. First, you NEVER lose your citizenship. Even if take up American citizenship

It is the US that does not RECOGNIZE dual citizenship, not Canada.

What is dual citizenship?

Every country decides whom it considers to be a citizen. If more than one country recognizes you as a citizen, you have dual citizenship.

You do not apply for dual citizenship and there is no related certificate. Canadians are allowed to take foreign citizenship while keeping their Canadian citizenship.

I have no idea why you are arguing something you clearly know little or nothing about???

Hey anything that will challenge Eric “The Decoy” Deslauriers I’m excited about  Also does not prevent Popp from signing a FA or drafting a receiver.

Donc, j’ai tort et tu as raison. Content?

I’m sorry you felt denigrated. BTW you are wrong again. The US has never had the ability to remove someone’s Canadian Citizenship. They just did not “recognize” it, today they do not “encourage” it. He’s as Canadian as you or I (assuming you are born in Canada). I have a hard time understanding why your contorting yourself into a Pretzel over it. Didn’t mean to throw salt on you

Even if he had relinquished his citizenship, sometimes people do that for fiscal or political protest, in Canada he could re-acquire it by simply requesting it and showing his birth certificate.

Look on the bright side, your now know a lot more about being a Canadian

Also, citizenship and where you were born are two different things. It's my understanding (and I could be wrong) that if you were born in Canada, it doesn't matter if you gave up your citizenship and became an American citizen. Your birth certificate says you were born in Canada so you're a national.

In Canada being born here automatically makes you a Citizen so the CFL cleaned up the language of the CBA to comply with this country’s laws and to clean up the weird loopholes by which a guy like Bartel could get NI status. The 5 year thing is still in there however where someone went to school or played his HS or College ball is no longer in there.
