Als off-season roster

Based on today's off-season roster,2 players have been excluded/released; they are: Kyle Jones-LB-N and Jermaine McGhee-DE- I

We now have 73 players,i.e. 39 imports and 34 non-imports.

Richard

Did McGhee not pass his physical???

Every off-season, players are signed, but don't make it to training camp. Failed physical is definitely a reason why a player is suddenly released; maybe the team has sign another player, whom they feel is superior/has a better chance to make the team. Many reasons, unknown to us, explain the releases.

Richard

Mistake? Whereas Kyle Jones and Jermaine McGhee were excluded/deleted from yesterday's off-season roster, they have been added again today.

Richard

Especially glad to see Mcghee back on the roster.
Richard - a good question for you because I know you will have the answer - what is the timeframe for invitations to training camp, i.e., when is the latest date an invitation can occur? How do we know about these invitations, or do we wait until camp to see who shows up?

There is no timeframe for invitations to training camp; often, there are more signings/changes-imports-in the beginning of training camp than during the off-season. Teams "test'/tryout" players during the off-season and always have players available should the ones already signed failed their physical, etc.

Generally speaking, teams will proceed with many tryout during the month of April and basically draw an "inventory" of players that could be invited in June,if needed.

Right now, the Als have basically signed-at least the ones confirmed- the number of players that they can invite to the training camp; while there are still a few spots opened, basically if a new player is signed, one on the current roster will come off.

Should/when Cobourne,Duval,Leak and Mayne become free agents tonight, 4 spots will become available for "new" players. I still hope/think that Avon will sign.

Richard

Changes occurring!

Three players have been added:

Jerry Porter-WR- 115 games played in NFL,mainly Oakland. Injured often in last seasons in NFL

Rashaud Slaughter-WR/KR- 23 years old.

Brandon Whitaker-RB-

We now have 78 players,i.e. 43 imports and 35 non-imports.

Pretty cool to convince descent ex NFLers to come up to Canada and try to make the team. Jerry Porter and Ahman Green are not nobodys what so ever. If there able to adjust to the CFL is a different story. Jim Popp got serious connections!

You guys got bigger things to worry about. Long term things, like when POP leaves at the end of the2011 season, also taking most of his players with him. Pop will be GM and VP of football operations for the Toronto Argos, in 2012. You heard it here first

The Argos convince descent ex NFLers to come here almost every year. Look what it;s done for US. The Argos even get exNFLers that due to they're playing years and Union agreement that a player must make 800,000. Lot's of those guys get dropped by NFL teams, since they can get a 2 years guy for 400,000. So the 800,000 guy can still play in the NFL, but he cost to much for say a 3rd down back. The Argos are great at getting those guys and rarely works out. Last one that did was Robert Durrmond

While it does not mean that none of them will sign with the Als, at the beginning of February 16,2011, Cobourne,Duval,Guzman,Leak and Mayne were deleted from the off-season roster; Mayne has already signed with Winnipeg.

To argoscfl: Jim Popp is signed with the Als until the end of 2014.

De qui tenez-vous cette information? Jojo Savard, sans doute. En passant, moi, je suis Napoléon Bonaparte.

Go troll somewhere else with your misleading aspirations.

Salut, chef!

With the new free agent additions I count 77 players on the Als roster, when the off-season permissible limit is 75.

Counting was never my strong suit, but I think I got it right!

Could it mean 2 players have been released, but not announced?

Richard??

Teams are allowed-during off-season- 75 players + "eligible" draft choices. Justin Conn and Brian Ridgeway, who were drafted last May but returned to school, do not count against the 75; should Curtis Dublanko, who was drafted last May and returned to school,be signed he will not count,so we could have as much as 78 players on the roster.

Richard

Thanks for your explanation Richard, didnt know that Conn and Ridgeway dont count.

But we are now at our limit, and other than Dublanko and the 2011 draft choices, we would have to release a player for anyone added.

Exact; in the next weeks,I expect Matthieu Proulx to retire; players such as Spencer,WallsMorin-Soucy-injuries-could be released.

Richard

If these four players (Proulx, Spencer, Walls, Morin-Soucy) are gone, three are NI and one is I. Does that mean we have to replace them with same - meaning, replace with three NI and one I ? Any ideas about replacements for these four vacancies? There probably are at least four more ex-NFL guys that want to come North!
