Als, Bombers take centre stage for 110th Grey Cup

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are out to prove a little something, even if they won’t admit it, at least not outwardly. The Montreal Alouettes have already proven themselves, but they want their incredible story to have the perfect ending.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.cfl.ca/2023/11/18/als-bombers-take-centre-stage-for-110th-grey-cup

Good thing this thread just arrived. I wasn’t sure who was playing tomorrow and had seen little discussion on the upcoming game. :slightly_smiling_face:

Of course I’m being facetious but I can say with certainty that for the last three Grey Cups for which I have been a member of this forum I haven’t seen close to the amount of site generated articles about the game as this year. I’m not saying that’s bad necessarily but I have noticed some overlap.

I’m interested to know the recollection of some of the more senior members of this forum.

If you’ve been watching TSN or any of the news lately, it’s all about Winnipeg and their Dynasty…how winning the 2023 Grey Cup will seal their dynasty. If you watched those same commentators before Montreal played Toronto, in Toronto, you would have heard how Toronto had a record (16-2) season. In fact, leading up to the Eastern Finals, all the press coverage was about the strength and depth of the Argonaut team…and nobody talked about the Alouettes. This week…the same thing. The press is all over Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Dynasty! Beautiful! This is exactly the kind of motivation these Alouettes thrive on! There is no chance that Montreal can play with Winnipeg…there is no chance that Montreal will win…there is no chance that the game will be even close! That’s exactly the same as last week, when Montreal played the best game of the year and won their 7th game in a row. Keep your eyes on James Letcher Jr., who will have a great game and take one more to the house! Sean Lemon will continue his dominance, partly to prove to the CFL that they all made a mistake by writing him off for the first month or two of the season. He’s too old, he’s too slow, he’s past his prime…Absolutely hilarious! He is amazing!! He was all over the field last week, making big plays. Did he come from behind? Just ask Chad Kelly. Was he in on those 3rd down turnovers on downs? Yes he was! Tomorrow he gets to thank the rest of the league for writing him off, while he sips from the Grey Cup! Watch out Zach…if you hear the ground shaking, it’s because Sean Lemon (aka the Lemonator) and his buddies Darnell Sankey, Almondo Sewell & Mustafa Johnson are closing in and about to sack you, with at least one forced fumble. Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Lwal Uguak, Fabion Ento and Tyrice Beverette will be making interceptions, forcing fumbles and making big plays. The defense will score at least 1 TD. On offense, Austin Mack, Tyson Philpot, Tyler Snead and Cole Spieker will be making spectacular catches and churning up YAC yards and TD’s. Who are these guys! Nobody knows because they don’t play for Winnipeg! They are all very talented and relatively unknown…until tomorrow that is! Let’s not forget William Stanback and Walter Fletcher (I really hope we are able to dress Fletcher too because they are a great one-two combo) will be making plays and yards and I am confident Stanback will score at least 1 TD. Lastly, Fajardo will have a great game and has learned from the last two games that those long throws to the flat aren’t worth the risk. Fajardo will continue to have a high completion percentage and avoid turnovers. He’s also going to run more than usual, partly because he’s tough and has a big heart and partly because he’ll do whatever it takes to win. OK. So, with this post, I have essentially done what no other broadcaster in Canada has done during the past two weeks. I spent more time talking about what Montreal will do to win the game than all other broadcasters in Canada put together…but that’s exactly where we want to be. The Alouettes are the underdogs. Nobody expects them to win…except me. I know they’re going to come out and leave it all on the field and play hard-nosed football and then celebrate what nobody expects…a Grey Cup Victory! How great it is to be the underdog! How wonderful to have an opportunity to prove everyone wrong! Have fun tomorrow boys! Go out there and bring it home! It’s time for everyone to talk about the Montreal Alouettes! Make it happen! AND THANK YOU FOR SUCH A THRILLING END TO THE 2023 CFL SEASON!!!

Well said, you have passion for the Alouettes. I hope it’s a good, well played game. I hope the officials allow the players to play the game. Most I hope the team who plays best wins.

What a wonderful message. I am going to love to see the ALS perform another stunning upset. I know they can and they will!!

I think the Als will need to summon the same underdog emotions they showed last week, and not let down if the Bombers get off to a fast lead. I am also thinking it will be more of an Alouettes crowd: Hamilton fans- who hold the most tickets - are fed up with seeing the Bombers win at THF.

I am of the mind that trash talk has been for the most part discouraged enough and that has gotten rid of a lot of prolific posters from the past.
I think that is a good thing too. Nobody likes to come to any forum where 90 percent of the posters are are on site only for the stupid stuff…the most prolific posters here now do not trash talk and there are more real discussions on the football posts from all fan bases.

Quiet crowd is my prediction ( seldom correct) slightly favouring the Alouettes in the first half.
After Green Day play and the temperature drops below zero for the second half ,I expect equal fan support .Bon chance les Alouettes……

I am sure the Alouettes are grateful for fans like you who passionately support them… However, I’m a Bomber fan and I believed Montreal could beat Toronto I said so 15 days ago on this very forum… also not quite sure when you say nobody except you is talking about the Alouettes… The articles on cfl.ca alone are 50-50 coverage… if anything the talk all year has been Toronto Toronto Toronto… Not surprising as TSN considers it the center of the universe… I don’t miss a minute of coverage and I’ve heard plenty about Montreal especially their defense which is very well deserved… I’ve also said that I believe today’s game is 50-50 and you can’t begrudge the talk about a Bomber dynasty, (by the way the Bomber players certainly aren’t talking about that)… If the Alouettes had been in the same position and were coming into their 4th straight appearance and had won 2 the talk by commentators and fans alike would be the same… As a Bomber fan I’ve listened all year to the commentators about how long in the tooth the team is how old they are how they’ve lost a step… Even the writers on this website have picked 50-50 three of them picked Montreal three picked the Bombers so I’d say the coverage is fairly equal, and you have to forgive us Bomber fans for standing behind our team, we had a 29 year drought so of course we’re going to enjoy the good times because we all know they don’t last forever…

Here’s hoping for a great game today, hope both teams stay healthy during the game and the refs don’t get in the way… I’ll be cheering hard for the Bombers as I’m sure you’ll be cheering hard for the Alouettes

here’s what I said before the East Final on this forum
I think you’re right about Hamilton not matching up with the Argos, but I have thought that Montreal could be the dark horse in this year‘s playoffs… if defences win championships, they’ve got a chance … Lemon was a great acquisition… Playing some of his best ball in his “twilight” years … Don’t be so sure they can’t beat the Argos… And this is coming from a Bomber fan… good luck to both our teams in the West and East finals
