MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes are keeping one of their star players in the building.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed receiver Tyson Philpot to an extension through 2027.

Tyson was never going to join Jalen in Calgary. When he said he wanted to play with his brother, it was clear that he was thinking that Jalen would join him in Montreal when the latter’s contract with Calgary expired. Which I also doubt will happen.
With this signing I’m wondering if Emilus will get signed soon in Sk. Likely good comparable for the Riders. Philpot had a great season, Emilus was injured a lot but a top Canadian in the Grey a up. Sure would be nice to see $numbers$.
Hatcher just got 325,000 a year for 2. He will be 33 when the deal is done.
Between him, Rourke and Betts that’s close to a quarter of the cap. Ottawa getting an extra draft pick this year?

Anyway the Als signing Philpot was a no brainer.
$325k per yr is to much in my opinion. If 3 players on the Lions are indeed getting 1/4 of the cap it’s going to burn them. Betts was invisible in the west final. Very good in regular season…maybe he was hurt?
Maybe not 25% but more than 20% is a solid guess. As for Betts I have no idea what his job was in the WF. Perhaps it was simply gap control? Over all it did seem like two different seasons for him as the first half was the same as the last game. Maybe it was all about scheme. Don’t know.
As for Philpot, $100k signing bonus, $100k guaranteed of his $275 plus salary. Starting to feel like an arms race this coming season.
