The Als don't have an established QB. They have a promising rookie in Shiltz, and a mediocre veteran in Willy. Can either one be expected to carry the offense in 2018? No.
Coach Sherman had a hall of fame QB in Brett Favre in his time as Packers HC from 2000-2005. But back then, the NFL was still more of a running the ball league, compared to today's NFL.
Grenn Bay RB Ahman Green had 5 seasons of 1000 rushing yards, and more than 250 carries per season under Sherman. Sherman knows how to build and manage a run heavy offense.
Since the Als don't have a franchise QB, and have a strong RB in Sutton; might Sherman build a run heavy offense? It sounds reasonable. Have Schiltz or Willy manage the game with short passes, play action and set up the run with the pass.
CFL defenses are mostly built to stop the pass; especially since Trestman changed CFL offenses with his short West coast style passing game. Maybe a strong power running game could be successful in today's CFL.
The Als would need to find a capable backup to Sutton. If Sutton suffers an injury, a quality RB would be needed to keep the offense running. A duo of Sutton and Messam (who is a free agent) could certainly be menacing to CFL defenses.

Quant à Sutton, il reste un élément majeur de l'équipe, lui qui peut frapper comme un marteau si la ligne offensive reste forte.

Also forgot about Josh Freeman! Johnny isn't sold on Freeman. If they build the offense around him, that would be a big risk. Whoever ends up playing QB, the Als need a strong running game.
I agree. RB seldom play an entire season, that team will need a backup that plays the same type of game as Sutton. That guy isn't on the roster and there are none available in the league right now, so they will have to bring in some running backs.
According to RB coach Bolduc that guy is on the roster: Josh Robinson. Similar stature to Sutton and supposedly plays the same. Bolduc says it is his job to get him ready to step in if needed (injury to Sutton).

What is even more alarming is that he says its ok to trade the #1 pick since they will get they pick again at ten. How can a coach who's been there five years not know that pick 10 has been traded to Hamilton?
Which makes me question his evaluation of Robinson. If Robinson was so good why did Saskatchewan cut him after two weeks and sign old Thigpen?
With the NFL looking at our CIS players these days, a trade for a quality player already in the CFL would give the team a sure player instead of drafting at number one. We have had one recent OT drafted bu the Als who went to the NFL.
It certainly is a philosophy that is becoming more acceptable. Short contract, ridiculous contract demands by these prospect agents. The value in the draft now rounds 2 and 3.
Having said that the #1 pick allows a team something no other team can do and that is negotiating prior to the draft with the prospects agent. That is why if I was GM you could not pry that pick from me.
The great Kazoo has no excuse not to have his pick negotiated and coming to camp at a position of need with that pick.
But if the prospect who is willing to sign is rated #23 (to be extreme to make the point) I might prefer a deal for an established young player or for a few draft picks
This is a pretty fantastic draft for offensive line prospects. You can't go wrong drafting one of the four guys at the top of the board, however, one has ankle issues. Julian Laurent DL is another can't miss prospect and would fit right in with the ratio.
You can't rebuild a team by burning your draft picks year after year. That's how Taman dig a hole in Winnipeg it took 8 years to climb out of it.

Elle manque cruellement de profondeur alors qu'il serait plus que temps de commencer à préparer la relève. À part Gagnon, on ne peut pas dire que la récolte soit riche. On verra au camp ce que les nouveaux montreront.
En 2016, les Alouettes n'ont certainement pas "eu la meilleure attaque au sol de la LCF"; en effet, ils ont été septième. Les premiers ont été BC, suivis de Edmonton,Calgary,Ottawa,Winnipeg,Toronto. Seuls Saskatchewan -8 ième- et Hamilton.-derniers- ont été pires que Montréal.

You won't get a quality Canadian starter for a draft pick. The whole point of the top picks in the draft is to get a quality Canadian Starter. Go sign Muamba and keep the pick.
Players like Cahoon, Singleton, Cornish are never traded. You need to draft those to be elite and if you give up your picks year after year, in no time you end up a bottom dweller with no identity.
Watched video on both Josh Robinson and Daryl Virginie. Robinson looks poished, shifty, fast with good instincs in the open field lots of workin a big school competitive coference, eared the nickname" human bowling ball. Virgine maybe a work in project.comes highly motivated from a troubled youth raised in poverty. Not a lot of organized football experience. Academically troubled as well. Might be a good project. Taxi squad to begin with, work his way onto the roster.
