Alouettes Free Agency

It’s a 2-horse race that has been quite long and does not seem overset.

I’m not saying the Als can afford Baron but he would be better than Avery Ellis in a d-line rotation.

Jason Ademilola—-Jerron Cage—-Ifeanyi Maijeh ——Antonio Moultry—Marcus Valdez.

Je souhaite qu’il demeure dans l’Ouest avec BC, moins de parties que contre Hamilton.

My head has always said and stills says Betts will re-sign with BC.

But I admit a tiny part of my heart was hoping there’s a chance he signs with us.

As to why the Tiger-Cats want to pay him a crazy amount of money, I’m puzzled. To me a guy like Pickett is more valuable than Betts. What is Jefferson worth then?

Avec ce congédiement, B.C. s’assure d’avoir plus de $$$ pour augmenter son offre de contrat à M. Betts.

We just re-signed Avery Ellis. To then cut him for Woody Baron would be not great at all. Also, as @ALS46 noted, Baron is a DT and Ellis is a DE. So it’s not even the same position.

I don’t think we need Baron TBH.

Woody Baron was apart of that Dline group that we were all complaining about. I rather not bring him back. Rather move on to a young rookie or someone we’ve never heard of it. We have enough of a veteran presence on the d line now.

Yes, recall at this time last year did any of us know of a fellow named Uguak?

Woody was a decent player during his Als days, but nothing mind blowing. Stick with Avery.

Not done until it is official concerning Mathieu Betts. Presently, he is looking to play in NFL. If he can not make a team, he will consider to play in CFL. Where? No chance he will play for a losing team like Hamilton. Money is important, but if you are a winner like Betts, BC and Montreal are better choices. If he sign with BC, he will regret his decision. Montreal is a serious contender for the Grey Cup.

Now worries.

I was looking at game films from 2022 and there were several where DT Moore was the best guy on the field. Looked a lot like Mustafa.

It wasn’t one year on the PR. He started making an impact on the active roster in 2022. But yes, I understand what you’re saying. I just think everyone gets trigger-happy at this time of year and wants us out there signing everyone. In reality, every team has a salary structure and you have to be careful about where and how you spend or you risk doing long-term harm to your team (see Edmonton for more info).

As Hfx said, Maciocia has managed to turn a negative (Uguak’s departure) into a positive: he signed two solid DL in Berglund and Wiggan, and while they aren’t at Uguak’s level, they are good players. Wiggan is a significant upgrade on Sewell, and Berglund in a rotation with Ellis and one of the new faces means we’ll able to get good pressure and also hopefully develop the next good defensive lineman.

Other than officially confirming the 3 free agent signings we already know, I’m not really sure what DM has left to do on Tuesday - either new free agent signings or re-signing any of our own free agents.

Perhaps re-signing James Tuck and/or Jake Harty. Can’t think of much more that will occur.

Always good, too, to leave yourself room to maneuver. If we hadn’t had cap space remaining, we’d not have been able to sign Lemon and Sankey midseason last year.

I too don’t expect anything major now. I hope both Tuck and Harty retire honestly. Good guys but it’s time for the team to move on. Dallaire and Fervius are much younger and should be able to get the job done, probably for a lower cap hit.

Yeah once the FA period really starts and all the tampering window contracts are signed then the bargain hunting begins either with your own players or other teams players who thought they were worth more but the market has shown they aren’t. Be interesting on Tuck. Does he still want to play or does he retire? I felt like we over payed for him last year even though he had a good year, especially the playoffs.

One name that still kind of intrigues me is National DE Jonathan Kongbo. Salary might be an issue, but as free agency starts to drag on salary demands tend to drop.

My feeling is that if the team hasn’t re-signed a pending free agent by now, that player is not in the team’s plans. Could be wrong.
