Alouettes and Blue Bombers set for first-ever Grey Cup meeting

It only took playing the game 110 times for these two franchises to meet in the Grey Cup. That stat blows my mind! If this was a regular season game I would say that the Bombers would blow the doors off of the Als (38-13 sort of game) but this is the CFL playoffs and for the Cup, so I am not sure anyone can confidently predict the outcome. I give the edge to Winnipeg if only because the moment will not be too big for them. Four years running these guys make the Cup and last year had to suffer through the entire off season after the Argos upset them. I expect it to be a close game with the Bombs getting up late and then grinding the clock down to victory. But, honestly, it would not break my heart if the Als found a way to win the game. Regardless of the outcome, I am so not ready for this season to be over. Is it May yet and camp starting?

As a Bomber fan I’m disappointed we won’t get a chance to avenge our last year’s one point loss… but I was growing weary of all the over hype of the Argos… Montreal’s beat down of them was enjoyable to watch… lots of cast offs on the Al’s team… Good on them… this won’t be an easy game for either team to win… Bombers have some injury woes to key players Schoen and now Bighill and neither Demski or Bailey are anywhere near in the best health, but they have a next man up mentality and they don’t just talk that talk, they actually walk it… Should be an entertaining Grey Cup… I will be cheering hard for the blue and gold

Hard to believe that these two teams never met in the Grey Cup considering it being such a small league. Of course, there are those years when the Blue Bombers played in the Eastern Division. I’m hoping for a Winnipeg victory and although there is never a guarantee in pro sports, I do feel that last years defeat will serve them well when it comes to being as focused as they’ve ever been. Still, having seen what Montreal did to Toronto, it should make for a great game. Go Blue

Four years of Blue Bombers, man this is really getting old. Hopefully it will be a good game but I can’t say I’m really up for his one and I’ve seen over fifty Grey Cups.

Thats how the rest of us felt watching you guys play 5 times in 7 years.
Although the Stamps only won 2 of them…

I think the thing I dread most about this game is, with Montreal in it I’m 'gonna have to listen to those GD horns. :exploding_head:

Maybe they’ll clamp down on them in the Donut Box.

Would it be cruel to mention that two of their losses were to teams that went 9-9 and 8-9-1?

Try 77 years. 1946 was the first year for the Larks franchise.

The Winnipeg franchise gained the name Blue Bombers (a nod to Joe Lewis know by the nickname the Brown Bomber) in 1935 from a journalist, but existed in some form from 1879 as a Rugby or football club.

I guess it depends on Hamilton policy or for the Grey Cup maybe even CFL policy. I don’t know the answer but maybe someone does. I know that the nails grating on chalkboard horns are not allowed in Winnipeg. Maybe not anywhere else either as I don’t recall hearing them other than in Montreal. Maybe some of our Ticat friends that are attending the game will volunteer to patrol the stands. I’ll happily FedEx them some cricket bats.

Im glad the Argos arent here next week. Already sat through that in '96.

They let cowbells in (they sell them) so i think the horns will be allowed.

Yikes. I hope not. They let cowbells in in Winnipeg too and even sell them but not horns.

I don’t mind cowbells. They’re nowhere near as annoying

I sat next to people with them at the Argo game and they barely bothered me. I can’t imagine what a horn right next to me would do.

I predict Winnipeg 39 Montreal 12

When neither of my two teams are in the running (Stamps Ticats obviously) I always pull for the underdog. As much as I’d like to see an upset I’ll go with…

WPG 31 MTL 20

I like this prediction. Everyone else in the world says calling a winner is nearly impossible, yet this guy comes up with “Winnipeg 39, Montreal 12”. I love it. And I echo this prediction as it is as good as any other prediction. Well done.

Well Cinci QB Joe Burrow certainly knows who he is cheering for in this Sundays Grey Cup . He showed up at yesterdays game sporting an old replica Alouettes jersey from when his father Jim Burrow played for them in the late 70’s . His dad was a member of the ‘77’ Grey Cup champion Alouettes and played in the CFL for 5 seasons from ‘77’ to ‘81’ .
