I can see him trying to trade for Arbuckle. Can’t see Toronto letting Kelly go, especially with Miller as their new HC. I can see a number of Argo free agents going to Ottawa.
Dustin Crum is definitely one of my choice for the number 2 in Montréal. Trade for him- I if Crum not available, I would not mind if Danny was trying to trade for Arbuckle.
Fajardo will remain in Edmonton and Harris in Saskatchewan.
Richard
He doesn’t have a lot of experience but I always like Jack Coan from SSK and he would be an option for me
Don’t know ANYTHING about him.
What have you seen in him?
He’s a big lad … is he a younger MBT?
Looked somewhat good in the XFL in 2023, but not much since.

The idiots on 3DN were freaking out about Philpot’s new contract on their latest “podcast”. I suffered so y’all don’t have to. (They still don’t know how an actually listenable podcast is run. First, don’t make it over an hour. So much talking, so little substance. Second, actually have a conversation instead of what they mostly do, which is read pre-scripted commentary while the camera is focused on their faces like they’re news anchors on a legacy media broadcast. Third, for the love of God, PUT TIMESTAMPS on the thing, please, so listeners who only care about one topic don’t have to waste time trying to figure out when you talk about subject X and for how long.)
Anyway, to the topic. Abbott was basically saying Philpot hasn’t done much yet and the value of this contract means being injured (“available”) doesn’t affect salary anymore. I guess he didn’t hear about Kenny Lawler receiving top dollar in Hamilton after four years of being injured, or Nathan Rourke getting elite QB1 money despite not playing a full season, or any of the other fairly common cases where teams pay based on their estimation of the player’s value despite injuries. To make matters worse, Abbott’s benchmarks are the 1000-yard season and all-star status, as if there are no other measurables for a receiver. Did he actually look at Philpot’s 2024 numbers? Meanwhile, Hodge or Dunk said Philpot hadn’t won any awards yet. I guess winning Most Outstanding Canadian in the 2023 Grey Cup game, in which he literally caught the championship-winning touchdown pass, is nothing, huh?
And with today’s news that Keon Hatcher is going to be making upwards of $300k, they look even dumber. They spent all this time talking about contracts and not once did any of these clowns reference the salary cap hike from last year, which, implemented so late, clearly delayed teams from spending until right now, or the $50k boost this year.
The other absolutely asinine thing about the 3DN assessment of Philpot is that it’s clear none of those chumps have watched him play live much, if at all, because if you have seen him take over a game, you know why he’s getting paid. He can do every single thing you need a receiver to do, from jump balls on posts to double moves to hitch screens to blocking, and every thing he does is at a high level. The way he runs routes, his stems and head fakes and footwork, the hands, the yards after contact, the situational football IQ, the ability to elevate in big games, all of it. And he is still only 25 years old!
Tyson is the kind of receiver you build around.
I think there should be a rule no 3down tomfoolery links posted in the forum ![]()
Lestage and Philpot were going to be the most targeted Als Free agents, so putting this to bed before year end and using whatever money left over the owner was willing to part with is fantastic way to end the year for Maciocia. Then you add the signing of a very, very talented young American DB and it signals to the fans and the league, we are coming for you and we are not done building on this thing.
I don’t uniformly hate them. They’ve shown themselves to be pretty good at breaking CFL news. But their commentary is not only partisan and odd but bewilderingly inept from a new-media and tech standpoint. Has anyone actually told them what a good podcast sounds like? I would expect better work from my undergrad students for an end-of-term assignment.
Look, they did a podcast at GC2024 side by side on their bed… It doesn’t get more cringe and amateurish than that. From memory the skinny one was sitting in the middle sinking into a wormhole.
I saw him in Notre Dame and like him as late draft pick. Big guy who read defence and throw the ball quickly
Lestage.
No need to suffer ![]()
I just listened t the podcast. They mentioned correctly that TP has not had a 1k yard season - but they did do the math and extrapolate that his appearances do work out to a 1300yd receiver and they add that is very rare for a National. Also note he has a nose for the end zone. Maybe they don’t get to see how excellent his blocking game is when the ball is in the hands of another receiver like we do, but all in all I found them rather positive on TP.
And 3DN do spend time, as I did a number of posts ago, explaining that with the new cap, the market has yet to determine what the numbers will be for new contracts, and that is also relevant to the conversation.
Fair. I think Hodge and Dunk were more positive. But Abbott’s stuff I found ridiculous, honestly. None of them brought up Philpot’s 2023 MOC performance. And none of them mentioned Lawler or Rourke or any number of cases where a team decided to pay based on belief in production, even when the player in question had missed time due to injury or NFL or whatever.
Maybe they mentioned cap elsewhere in that mess of a podcast, but I wouldn’t know because they don’t provide timestamps! ![]()
