:als_red: Alouettes 2025 Training Camp

Possible, but unlikely IMO. Between Berglund, Uguak, Archibald, and Onyeka, we’re well-stocked at national DE.

You don’t have to concede anything Sheldon

Les Alouettes ne sont pas trop “pressés” à publier/faire connaître les 85 joueurs + non-counters au camp.

Wonder what’s happening with Zema. Personal or family issues?

Might also explain why we brought so many punters to camp.

Until there is any further news it is hard to know if the suspensions involve players not passing physicals or not showing up at camp.

That’s what I’d expect both Danny and Jason to say. The GM is obviously going to be a bit more straightforward about which positions are actually up for grabs. The head coach is usually going to say that everything is a battle and no one’s guaranteed their spot, which is mostly a cliché until it isn’t.

I’m worried about Moose, not gonna lie. Let’s hope he gets healthy as soon as possible.

Ventrelli getting 1st string reps at RG and LBJ seems to be pleased with the new American o-linemen.

I’m surprised no one’s asked the team why Zema is suspended. It’s one thing to have American newcomers get suspended. Players no-show or change their minds about coming up here. It’s quite another for the team’s starting punter to get put on this list.

First presser from training camp.

Maciocia:

  • Vibe comes from our culture over the past few years.
  • Focused on Grey Cup, but things have to happen on the way. Wants us to play better in second half of this season. Especially for our fans.
  • We need depth because we know we’ll need it.
  • Ideally would like to have 1 QB on the PR in addition to the 3 dressed, but seems to be open to keeping even 2 QBs on the PR if it works out that way.
  • When asked about the biggest battle in camp, he mentions the O-line (American or Canadian at RG), then DB, then DL where he thinks there will be “probably” be a ratio change.
  • Interesting to hear Danny say that Tiger Shanks could be a ratio-changer on the line. That might suggest that he could eventually come into play at right tackle?

Maas:

  • Same goal: grind for 9. Pathway is connect together every day, get better every day. Wasn’t a perfect practice but the effort was there today.
  • Wants rookies to absorb information, growth, consistency. Incremental improvement and compete level, as well as willingness to learn.
  • Says DA is as highly competitive as anyone he’s ever been around. Says DA has put a lot of work in since becoming the starter.
  • Says all QBs should prepare like they’re the starters. Mentions Davis as someone who does that but also mentions Caleb Evans too.
  • DA is “locked in”.
  • Says leadership comes in different forms, but “the moment you’re in that huddle, you’re leading it.” Wants the leaders to be themselves. Stresses work ethic and compete level again.
  • MBT comes in with pedigree but says he loves how Caleb Evans performs. Mentions the other QBs too and says someone will “separate” themselves in camp. They will let the plays and reps decide and decide on their “best three” at the end of camp.

Alexander:

  • Tries to approach the game the same way regardless of whether he’s the starter.
  • Says he thinks the 6-7 lbs. he put on feel like muscle mass.
  • Compares his “arm talent” to MBT’s. Says MBT has been asking questions but also teaching him.
  • Says he hasn’t had many reps with Mack or Snead until now. Is more familiar with Rambo and Spieker and Philpot from last year. So still building familiarity.
  • Ends by reiterating that he thinks we have the best receiving corps in the league and he’ll “die on this hill.”

MBT:

  • Starts off by says hello, how are you in French.
  • No one has any “lead” on anyone else. Has respect for the whole group.
  • Says he’ll bring all his experience but also all mistakes he’s learned from to DA. Building a relationship so we can be good teammates.
  • There’s no “space” when you’re QB1, he says. You’re right into every period, every drill, etc. You have to find your own space, which he characterizes as both metaphor (!) and reality. (I already love his interviews.)

Shanks:

  • Opens by saying it’s a lot “cooler” here than in Vegas so he can’t complain.
  • Just coming in to compete, seems like a lot of veteran guys helping out. Says he just has to learn new techniques and embrace the new game (three-down football).
  • Speed is different at pro level, but it comes with the territory.
