Alexander need to be the starter for the rest of Fajardo injury. I don’t want to see Evans starting a game again even if Alexander is unlucky and get injured try Morgan. I’ve seen enough of Evans to know that he’s not a starter. No football awareness, can’t go to his 2nd read, no touch/accuracy, no coolness in the pocket.
Nah. He had a bad half but the whole team was miserable. We couldn’t protect him in the pocket, receivers were dropping balls, defence was poor. I agree that Alexander should be the starter until Cody is healthy but playing Morgan over Evans if Davis gets hurt is silly.
It’s not only 1 bad half, in fact he only had 1 good half and it was against a really bad Ottawa team last year.
Most of the pressure where on him yesterday, because he was keeping the ball way to long or wasn’t moving in the pocket.
I would keep him because I like the caracter of the player and he’s great on the QB sneak but I just don’t want to see him start a game again. I have 0 confidence when he’s our QB
He’s 26. Everything people are saying about him now could be radically different in a few years. The top QBs in the CFL are guys who only blossomed at around age 30.
That said, the job is Alexander’s now until Cody is healthy or Davis gives Maas reason to go back to Evans.
Now let’s talk about my man Davis Alexander ! He really have all the tools to be a star in the CFL. Won’t get to excited after a half of football where SSK didn’t have any tape on him but I’ve been waiting for the past 3 years to see him those kinds of snaps in a real game that matter. Can’t wait to see what he’s gonna do in a full week of practice as a starter and against a team that’s gonna prepare against him and have tape on him
Yes, from now on the task will get harder because teams have tape on him now. On the plus side, he gets all the starter reps in practice too.
If I’m being honest, I think Corey Mace outcoached Jason Maas and Anthony Calvillo yesterday as DC against OC. We couldn’t handle what Sask was doing defensively, and even the positive plays that eventually resulted in TDs were mostly from Alexander escaping the pocket and throwing on the run to receivers in scramble mode.
I will give Maas/AC credit for the second White TD, which was a great playcall and well-executed. Vercheval commented that we’d tried the same play with Evans in the first half and it hadn’t worked. This time, Alexander made no mistake and we caught the Riders jumping the quick screen fake.
They made adjustments in the 2nd half though, it wasn’t only Alexander being better then Evans and at Maas credit, I do think that is one of his biggest strength as a head coach. He always make good adjustments in the 2nd half
I don’t think the 18 minutes of film wil do much for Milanovich but depress him. He shouldn’t watch it
Agreed, but even then, it’s not like we were dissecting Saskatchewan. We gave up 5 sacks on the night, they held us out of the end zone late in the game, and they were getting good pressure on Alexander in the second half. Credit to Maas and Alexander and the team, but credit also to the Roughriders. I think they ran out of gas in the second half.
After almost a half of the season played, I do think Jason Maas is the #1 candidate to be Coach of the year
Agreed, but you have to think the frontrunner for that award is Corey Mace if the Riders keep winning. Taking the team from the sad-sack Craig Dickenson era to this is quite an accomplishment in less than a year.
I do think too that Mustafa Johnson and Tyrone Beverette have a case for DPOY too
And the most underrated player for the Alouettes this year according to me is Kabion Ento. We never hear his name what is a good thing. Yesterday on the trick play at the start of the game, he was perfectly place running the route for the WR
Moose and Bev are candidates, for sure, but in the biased world we live in, I can’t see a defensive tackle getting nominated unless he’s having some kind of crazy year in the obvious stats (sacks, DTs, and forced/recovered fumbles). This defence is good because it’s a bunch of talented players working together unselfishly. Sadly, that means we don’t have a lot of players leading in individual defensive categories.
Actually, our D reminds me of how Bob McGowan, on the old Sportsnet radio show, characterized the Pittsburgh Steelers defence of the Troy Polamalu era. “You just look up at the end of the game and you ain’t got enough points.”
I agree about Ento. He’s made teams basically stay away from his side of the field. I can think of one play off the top of my head where he was beaten – a late passing TD in one of our early wins (Ottawa? Toronto?) – and that’s about it. Credit to Najee Murray, too, for helping to lock down the field side.
I see per transactions that we extended McGloster on the 6-game on July 24. I hope that’s purely a small cap-saving measure until he’s ready to return in a week or two and not a sign that he’s going to spend the next 6 games out of commission.
Personally I don’t think there is a defensive player in the league that I would take before Moose and he’s the league leader for sack with 3 other players
I’m with you. He’s one of the best defensive tackles in the league and a game-changer from his position.
Mitch Gallow and Sean Campbell of TSN690 currently have Davis Alexander on right now.
Did not sleep.
Nothing but positive things to say about being with the Als. Maas and AC.
Gets along very well with Evans and Fajardo - on and off the field.
Sounds like a great young man.
Oui, le travail de Mace est impressionnant. Je suis certain qu’il va s’imposer comme un très bon entraîneur-chef.
Alexander!!!
Bring on those Ticats. Time for a good spanking!
