Fajardo’s ranking is absolutely fair in my book. Yes, he had a 300-yard game, but he was poor at protecting the football, responsible in whole or part for two interceptions and the strip sack.
I think we’re just going to have to live with Cody’s limitations this year and hope we can come out ahead on balance, because we don’t have a better QB option right now. On the plus side, Cody is grittier than Harris ever was, a gamer with a good attitude who’ll stand in the pocket and take a hit to make the throw, and a threat to run as well. On the minus side, he simply can’t read the field pre-snap the way Harris could, which results in plays like those two interceptions, neither of which he should have thrown in the first place (and leaving aside Mayala falling down on the first one).
Pretty sure, too, that Maas and Calvillo are aware of Cody’s limitations and are really gearing the offense to minimize the amount of pre-snap reading he has to do. Hence the emphasis on ball security.
When Fajardo protects the football and Coté isn’t missing 30-yard field goals, we should be fine most games.
I think fans are doing the “backup QB is the most popular guy” thing with Alexander. Apart from some fairly meaningless game time in 2022, I haven’t seen much evidence that he’s anything but what he is: the third-string QB. He wasn’t great in preseason at all this year.
I hope I’m wrong.
Special teams need to improve. Our coverage is good, but we’re near the bottom of the league in many return-related categories.
Personally, I am not certain there is upside left with Evans … or that Evans would outperform Alexander … so I would prefer to develop Davis.
I’m with you. I’ve been singularly unimpressed with Evans. Actually would rather we hung on to Dominique Davis.
He didn’t had his best performance during the camp but he showed (not only in pre season game but during the camp and last year when he played) that he has all the tools to be a successful QB and he has tools that any other QB have in our team (and I would say since a long time).
And other thing that make me confident with him, it’s that he has that special thing in him that when you need a big play in important moment, he delivered big time and step up. That something you can’t teach and usually make the difference a good QB and a great QB.
For the 3rd stint in the depth chart, I think Evans is there because he’s the one who makes the QB sneak
That’s more about his receivers bailing him out with great catches, like that Q. Davis reception in the first preseason game.
His footwork and decision-making didn’t look great to me in camp. Hopefully he’s progressed since then.
But the coaches clearly disagree, since Evans is the #2 guy. Not that I don’t agree with you. Between Evans and Alexander, I’m not exactly filled with confidence when it comes to our backup quarterbacks. I still think Mike Glass played better than either of them in preseason, but hey, I’m just a fan.
This year it’s Fajardo or bust.

Also, it looks like the Als are concerned about other teams stealing their defensive signals.
I said none of those things. Don’t put words in my mouth.
I do think fans are overrating Alexander. Like everyone, I hope Alexander turns out to be the QB of the future for our team.
I totally get that, but it cuts both ways. He could have lots of potential we haven’t seen yet, or he could be a bust, or he could wind up being something in between. It’s really impossible to know. But if he had been thrust into a starter’s role on a bad team before he was ready, like Caleb Evans, he might well have had the same underwhelming stats that Evans has.
