Alouette Assistant Coaches

Herb had written last week that Posy-Audette would be the new Als Defensive assistant, the job Marc Calixte had last year.
Le Journal saying they also asked Brennan and Collinson. Don`t know why they would ask Brennan for a junior position, he has been a CFL o-line coach, and Collinson our former long snapper probably will earn far more with Laval.

I don't know why the Als keep insulting these guys from the "Q"? OH yeah this way they can make it look like they are supportive of CIS coaches! One of the greatest Coach in CFL history was a US High School coach before he came to the CFL. His name: Don Matthews.

That's not an opportunity, its a step back. That's an offer you give to a Maciocia who was coaching the Cougars. giving a CIS coach an opportunity would be giving him a job as a position coach. Is anyone surprised the Als are struggling to put a coaching staff together in mid-Feb ?

Surpris, non. Déçu, oui.

But hey, we should all just trust Jim Popp, right? Right?

This has become absolutely ridiculous. We're getting to the end of February and it seems to be some crazy Herculean impossible task just to hire an effing HC and OC. Shame on both Popp and Wetenhall. They've lost the plot.

I think they’ve confirmed Popp, this is why we are seeing some “suspects” being approached to join his staff.

But why hasn't there been an official announcement about Popp? And why haven't we heard a word about who might fill the OC position?

This is exactly it. If Popp has already been confirmed as HC, why the frack aren't they rushing to announce it publicly? Given how long this saga has dragged out, wouldn't they be eager to put this issue to bed and show the fanbase that the team is on track?

I legitimately do not understand how Wetenhall and Popp think the way they're running things benefits the Als. It has become an absolute joke. No good business combines endless drift / lack of direction with all power concentrated into the hands of one man (Popp). That combo is a recipe for disaster. We used to be the model of how a franchise should be run. In the past few years, we've turned into a laughingstock.

At this point, frankly, my ideal scenario would involve Wetenhall selling the team to a committed owner and Popp getting the boot in all his capacities. I've had it with the hubris, the slow-as-molasses decision-making, the dithering, and the inability to retain coaches or hire ex-players as coaches. This is not how the Montreal Alouettes should be run. Wetenhall has become too reliant on individuals and has lost perspective on how to separate business from personal ties. He has been a great owner in the past, but he isn't now, just like Popp is no longer the same GM who led the league in hard work, diligence, and detail-oriented management. The Wetenhall/Popp era has been incredibly positive one for the Als, but just like all good things (see Calvillo, Anthony for more info), that positivity has to come to an end sometime, and IMO it's happening right now.

I read in Facebook that the team is selling discounted tickets- some 1/3 below printed costs. Is this a sign of frustration with the fans ( those who generally purchase tickets) and, will paid attendance drop this coming season?

Anybody who is a somebody in the sports media is in Soichi. I don't expect anything until the Olympic games have concluded. At this point I've given up on that team showing any transparency to its fans.

Yeah, transparency, what's that?

I guess you're right. But if the Olympics end and we don't hear something from the team on the HC and OC situation...oy.

I guess you're right. But if the Olympics end and we don't hear something from the team on the HC and OC situation...oy.

I don`t buy any Olympic reasoning. Lions, Riders, Bombers all unveiled coaching staffs/hires the last 2 days.

I can only conclude Popp having difficulty coming to agreement with the guys he wants.

As LeStaf said I don`t see us ending up with an off. co-ordinator better than Doug Berry was.

I could have told you that from the get go. The only way we were going to get an OC is if they had replaced Popp by a "respected" HC and that has probably become difficult in itself. The starting QB retired and the owners has an itchy trigger finger and has replaced a HC during the season on 3 occasion.

I agree with your point, except that one of those occasions doesn't really count (Matthews leaving for health/anxiety disorder reasons, not being fired).

Only 2 coach firings in 17 years is a pretty good track record.

I think you guys are going to be disapointed if you expect an announcement this week.

I have given up expecting anything to be done in a timely fashion. Presumably, we will have a HC and OC in place before training camp starts, yes? That's my new baseline.
